The Service Medal in CS2 is one of the most iconic rewards a player can earn, symbolizing dedication and experience throughout the year. Each year brings a new version of the medal with unique colors and designs that showcase your progress and prestige. In this guide, we’ll explain how to get the 2026 Service Medal in CS2, break down its color tiers and ranks, and share useful tips to help you earn it as quickly as possible.

What Are Service Medals in CS2?

Service Medals are special in-game rewards that represent your dedication, playtime, and experience over a given year. Instead of giving you competitive advantages, they act as prestige badges displayed on your profile and next to your name in lobbies.

Once you reach Global General (Rank 40), you can reset your profile rank to earn a Service Medal. Doing so restarts your XP progress but rewards you with a unique medal that reflects your achievement for that year. Each year’s Service Medal comes in several color tiers, showing how many times you’ve “prestiged” during that year: from basic bronze to elite diamond.

How to Get and Claim 2026 Service Medal in CS2?

The only way to get the service medal is to reach Rank 40. You can do it by playing any official matchmaking mode (Casual, Competitive, Wingman, or Premier).

When you hit Rank 40, a prompt appears allowing you to redeem the 2026 Service Medal. Confirming this resets your profile rank back to Private Rank 1, but you’ll receive the medal as a permanent reward.

Each time you reach Rank 40 again and reset your rank within the same year, your medal color upgrades: Gray → Green → Blue → Purple → Pink → Red, showcasing your continued progress.

After claiming it, the medal appears on your CS2 profile, and other players can see it next to your name in-game, showing your dedication and experience.

How to Upgrade CS2 Service Medals?

After claiming your first Service Medal of the year, your profile resets to Private Rank 1.

To upgrade the medal, you must once again play official matchmaking modes and level up all the way to Rank 40.

When you hit Rank 40 again, CS2 will offer you the option to redeem an upgraded version of that year’s medal.

Every time you upgrade, your profile rank resets back to Rank 1, but all earned medals remain in your inventory permanently. All upgrades must be earned before the yearly reset on January 1.

When a new year begins, the medal design changes, and you start earning the new year’s version from scratch.
