What Do We Actually Know About GTA 6's Guns So Far?
Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Rockstar Games. Everything below is based on GTA 6's official trailers, screenshots, promotional materials, and Rockstar's Extended Look released in August 2026 — not a final weapon list. PC Gamer has identified at least 19 distinct firearms across Rockstar's official footage and screenshots so far, and that count will keep climbing as marketing ramps up ahead of launch.
One genuinely interesting wrinkle: Rockstar generally avoids using real firearm manufacturer and model names in modern GTA titles, instead relying heavily on fictional brands and weapon names — Jason's pistol is branded "Girardi," Lucia's is "Klose," the assault rifle carries a "Duke Arms Company" logo. This allows Rockstar to give its weapons recognizable real-world designs while presenting them under fictional in-game branding. CS2 goes the opposite direction and calls most of its guns by their actual real-world names — AK-47, Glock-18, Desert Eagle — while a few, like the M4A4, use Valve's own invented model designation instead. Our CS2 weapon and guns tier list is a good primer on the full current roster if any of these CS2 names are new to you.
Guns Both Games Have in Common
| Real-World Gun Family | Spotted in GTA 6 | CS2 Equivalent | Match Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| AK-pattern rifle | Multiple AK-47-style rifles on the rack at Ammu-Nation | AK-47 | Same weapon family |
| Glock-family pistol | Klose K17 (Lucia's sidearm) | Glock-18 | Same weapon family |
| Beretta 92FS / M9 | Girardi ES9 (Jason's sidearm) | Dual Berettas | Same weapon family |
| M4 / AR-pattern carbine | Duke 556 Assault Rifle | M4A4, M4A1-S | Same weapon family |
| Benelli M4 (M1014) | Semi-auto shotgun spotted in GTA 6 footage | XM1014 | Same real-world gun |
| Heckler & Koch MP5 | SMG used by both leads in the same robbery scene | MP5-SD | Same weapon family |
This list will grow — Rockstar hasn't shown its full arsenal yet, and CS2's own weapon roster occasionally changes too. Check the CS2 market for the current lineup of skinnable weapons.
AK-47
The AK-47 barely needs an introduction on either side of this comparison — it's the single most recognizable rifle silhouette in gaming, curved magazine and all. GTA 6's second trailer shows a whole rack of AK-pattern rifles with different furniture and attachments inside Ammu-Nation, hinting at deeper per-weapon customization than GTA V ever offered. In CS2, the AK-47 needs no reskinning to be iconic, but it's also the single most invested-in weapon on the skin market — our AK-47 skins tier list covers where to start if you're building a loadout around it.
One AK-47 skin worth flagging specifically here is AK-47 | Gold Arabesque — a Covert finish from The 2021 Dust 2 Collection, hand-painted with an ornate gold-and-filigree pattern across the stock and handguard. That same lavish, gilded look echoes the opulent Vice City interiors shown in GTA 6's own promotional screenshots, right down to the intricate patterned detailing.

Glock-18 and Dual Berettas

Lucia's officially named Klose K17 appears to draw heavily from the Glock family, with the Glock 17 among the closest real-world comparisons — though not every trailer-watcher agrees on the exact model, with some pointing to the SIG Sauer P320 as a partial influence too. Jason's Girardi ES9, his own signature sidearm, is modeled closely on the Beretta 92FS/M9 instead. Rockstar's Ultimate Edition artwork shows both protagonists' special-finish sidearms side by side.
CS2's Glock-18 comes from that same broad Glock pistol family — Valve's version is nominally the fully-automatic-capable model, but the silhouette, the boxy slide, and the polymer frame all trace back to the same lineage. It's also one of the most common starter pistols in CS2 for a reason: it's the default T-side sidearm, so every player already owns one. Our Glock-18 skins guide rounds up the best-looking ways to dress it up. The copy pictured below, Glock-18 | Gold Toof, is one of the model's flashier Covert finishes, with a gold-toothed grin motif running along the slide.
CS2's Dual Berettas are likewise based on Beretta 92-series pistols, just wielded two at once, an homage the weapon has carried since its earliest CS days (the dual-wield concept traces back to Hong Kong action cinema, not realism). It's a CT-side sidearm that trades accuracy for a stupidly fast kill potential up close, which tracks with how Rockstar tends to frame sidearms in GTA's own combat too. The pair pictured below, Dual Berettas | Balance, wears a weathered steel finish with an engraved rose motif across both grips.
M4A4 and M4A1-S

The rifle Jason aims down sights in GTA 6's second trailer carries a "Duke Arms Company" logo above the magazine, and Rockstar has since named it the Duke 556 Assault Rifle in an extended gameplay look — built on an M4/AR-15 pattern, the same design family behind both of CS2's M4 variants. The higher-capacity M4A4 and the suppressed, more accurate M4A1-S are CS2's two CT-side rifle options, and picking between them is less about the real-world gun and more about playstyle. Our M4A4 vs. M4A1-S guide walks through which one actually suits you.
Whichever you land on, our M4A4 skins and M4A1-S skins categories cover the full range of finishes for each.
XM1014

This is the closest thing on this list to an exact match. A semi-auto shotgun visible in GTA 6's footage has been identified by trailer-watchers as a Benelli M4 — that's the same Benelli M4/M1014 family represented by CS2's XM1014. The "XM1014" name is even historically accurate: it's the real trial designation the U.S. Marine Corps used for the Benelli M4 Super 90 before formally adopting it as the M1014. Two completely different studios landed on the same real gun for the same "aggressive, close-range shotgun" role, which says something about how limited the pool of genuinely iconic modern shotguns actually is. Our XM1014 skins category has the full lineup if you want to dress up CS2's own version.

MP5-SD

Early in GTA 6's second trailer, during the same armed-robbery sequence, both protagonists carry a compact SMG that appears to be modeled closely on the Heckler & Koch MP5 family — Jason's copy even wears a red dot sight. CS2's MP5-SD represents the integrally suppressed MP5SD branch of that same weapon family, added to the game back in an August 2018 patch as a cheap, accurate close-range option. Our MP5 vs. MP7 comparison breaks down how it stacks up against CS2's other budget SMG if you're deciding between them. Check out the full range of MP5-SD skins to see what's currently available.

Why the Overlap Isn't a Coincidence
Neither studio is copying the other — they're both drawing from the same small pool of real-world firearms that action-game audiences instantly recognize on sight: the AK-47's curved magazine, the Glock's blocky slide, the MP5's ribbed handguard. It's the same reason so many shooters converge on similar rosters. The one real difference is presentation: Rockstar packages its recognizable gun designs under invented brand names, while Valve displays most of CS2's weapon names directly and lets the actual variety live in the skins layered on top instead — our guide to CS2's Gunsmith skins covers one of the more elaborate examples of that customization system.
FAQ
When does GTA 6 actually come out?
November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar Games states this date directly on the official GTA VI site, after two earlier delays pushed the game back from its original Fall 2025 target.
Are the GTA 6 weapon names in this article official?
Some are, some aren't. "Duke 556 Assault Rifle" was confirmed by Rockstar in an extended gameplay look. Others are educated guesses from trailer-watchers based on visual details like receiver shape and magazine profile — Rockstar hasn't published a full weapon list yet.
Does CS2 have an equivalent for every gun shown in the GTA 6 trailers?
No. A Colt 1911-style pistol (nicknamed "Capo" by fans) and a grenade launcher have both turned up in GTA 6 footage with no direct match in CS2's current weapon roster, which skips 1911-pattern pistols and launcher-type weapons entirely.
Why does GTA 6 use fictional gun brand names while CS2 uses real ones?
The two series simply take different approaches to weapon naming. GTA largely uses fictional manufacturers and model names, while Counter-Strike retains recognizable names such as AK-47, Glock-18, and Desert Eagle alongside fictionalized or altered designations such as M4A4.
Will more shared weapons show up before GTA 6 launches?
Almost certainly. Rockstar has already released two trailers, an Extended Look, and additional official screenshots and promotional material, and typically ramps up marketing significantly in the months before launch — which means more weapon reveals, and likely more overlap with CS2's own roster, between now and November 2026.
Which of these CS2 weapons is worth buying skins for first?
Whichever one you actually use most. The AK-47 and M4A4/M4A1-S see the heaviest competitive play and the deepest skin selection by far, but the Glock-18 and MP5-SD are both solid, affordable places to start a loadout since they're weapons every player picks up constantly.
