Tempered is a Rust skin collection by Steam Workshop creator Milho Frito, built around heat-treated steel: that oily purple-to-gold iridescence real metal takes on when it comes out of a forge. This guide prices every Tempered skin currently listed on Skin.Land, adds up what a complete Tempered kit costs in 2026 and shows which pieces are actually worth your money.

What Is the Tempered Set in Rust?

Tempered is one of those Workshop collections that quietly became a status symbol. Milho Frito posted the collection back in November 2016 and has kept adding to it ever since. The Workshop page now lists 75 submissions, covering guns, armor, clothing, doors and storage. Not every submission made it into the game, but 36 Tempered skins are tradable and sitting in the Skin.Land catalog right now.

The look is the whole point. Instead of a camo or a paint job, Tempered mimics what happens to steel when you heat it: a violet-to-amber shimmer that shifts as you turn the item, with the darker gunmetal parts left matte for contrast — the closer you look, the better it gets. On the glow variants (the garage door, both sheet metal doors, the armored door, the large wood box and the bed) those panels are lit from the inside, so your base keeps glowing after dark.

Rust doesn't use rarity tiers the way CS2 does, so there's no "Covert" or "Classified" label here to justify a price tag. What decides the value is supply: the older Tempered pieces came out of the Rust item store years ago and aren't sold there now, so the copies in circulation are the ones players already own. Facepunch has kept adding new Tempered items over the years, which is why the set spans everything from a 2016 MP5 to recent tactical gloves. If you're new to all this, our guide on how Rust skins get into your inventory covers the store, drops and the market in one place.

How Much Does a Complete Tempered Kit Cost in Rust?

Buying all 36 Tempered skins currently listed on Skin.Land costs roughly $610 as of 2026, across more than 800 live listings. Two items account for nearly 90% of that: the Tempered Mp5 at about $380 and the Tempered Mask at about $160, a combined $540. The other 34 skins together come to around $70, meaning you can dress almost your entire loadout in Tempered for less than the price of one decent CS2 knife.

Split by what you actually use, it looks like this:

What you're buyingPiecesCost on Skin.Land (approx.)
Everything, the complete Tempered kit36~$610
Weapons only (MP5 through crossbow)15~$420
Weapons without the Mp514~$35
Clothing and armor14~$170
Clothing and armor without the Mask13~$17
Base skins (doors, boxes, bed)7~$20

So the honest answer to "how much does a Tempered kit cost" is: $70 if you skip the two grails, $610 if you don't. The jump between those two numbers is scarcity, not quality, and that is worth knowing before you start clicking buy. If you want to see what your own stash is already worth before you spend, run it through our Rust inventory value checker.

The Two Tempered Grails: Mp5 and Mask

Tempered Mp5

Tempered Mp5 (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

This right here is the one everybody knows. The Tempered Mp5 puts a full violet-and-gold heat bloom across the receiver and barrel shroud of the MP5A4 while leaving the stock and grip in flat black, and the contrast is what sells it: it reads as a real tempered part rather than a recolor. It sits around $380 on Skin.Land with roughly 70 copies listed, which makes it comfortably the most expensive piece in the collection and a regular on every list of the rarest and priciest Rust skins. There's no performance edge here, since it fires exactly like a default MP5, so what you're paying for is a closed supply pool and the fact that everyone in the server recognizes it. Browse the rest of the MP5 skins on Skin.Land if the price makes your eyes water.

Tempered Mask

Tempered Mask (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

The Tempered Mask is the piece the whole collection was built to match, and it's the second-biggest number on the list at roughly $160, with only about twenty copies on sale. On the Metal Facemask the gradient runs the other way to the Mp5: gold through the cheeks and brow, dropping into deep purple at the jaw and hood. Pair the two and a Tempered Mp5 and Tempered Mask together read as one continuous heat gradient across your whole silhouette. Stock on this one is thin, and with that few copies around at any one time — far fewer than the Mp5 — the price reacts fast to a couple of sales. If you're buying the kit piece by piece, this is the one to grab when you see it, not the one to wait on.

Best Tempered Weapon Skins Under $10

Tempered AK47

Tempered AK47 (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

Here's the biggest steal in the whole set. The Tempered AK47 goes harder than either grail visually, with magenta and gold marbling across the receiver, a gold-tinted gas tube, a purple underfolder stock and wood furniture left raw for contrast, and it costs around $9, with about seventy copies listed. That's roughly two percent of the Mp5's price for arguably the best-looking Tempered piece in the game — a genuine steal. The Assault Rifle is the gun you'll actually hold for most of a wipe, so if you only buy one thing from this collection, make it this one. It also holds up next to anything in our roundup of the best-looking AK-47 skins in Rust. See the full AK skin category for the alternatives.

Tempered M249

Tempered M249 (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

The M249 is already a flex weapon, since you're carrying a belt-fed LMG you looted out of a locked crate, so wrapping it in tempered steel is thematically perfect. The finish runs deep violet across the receiver and barrel with gold catching the top rail, and at around $4 it's one of the cheapest ways to make a very expensive gun look like it cost even more. Only a handful of copies are listed at any one time, so don't expect to find it on demand.

Tempered SAR

Tempered SAR (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

The Semi-Automatic Rifle is the gun that carries most players through early and mid wipe, and the Tempered version gives it magenta speckling over a purple body with gold ring accents around the muzzle and sight. For a couple of dollars it's the definition of a cheap upgrade: you'll craft a dozen SARs over a wipe and the skin applies to every one of them. Compare it against the rest of the SAR skins on Skin.Land.

Tempered Thompson

Tempered Thompson (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

With well over a hundred copies listed, the Tempered Thompson is the easiest piece in the set to get hold of and the cheapest gun worth owning at around $1.50. The receiver and drum get the full violet-magenta treatment with gold flecking along the top, and because the Thompson is a mid-wipe staple you'll see it constantly. Think of it as the entry ticket to the collection, because you can be running Tempered before you've spent two dollars. More options in the Thompson skin category.

Tempered Armor and Clothing

The wearables are where the Tempered kit gets genuinely cheap. Ignore the Mask for a second and you can kit out your entire character (helmet, chest plate, vest, kilt, hoodie, pants, boots and gloves) for about $17. That's less than a single round of fuel.

Tempered Helmet

Tempered Helmet (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

The Coffee Can Helmet in Tempered is a smooth violet-to-teal shell with a carbon-weave strip over the crown, and it pairs with the Mask without clashing. At a little over a dollar, with around twenty copies listed, it's one of the easiest pieces to pick up, and it's a far cheaper way to look expensive than most of what you'll find in our guide to the best armor in Rust.

Tempered Chest Plate

Tempered Chest Plate (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

At under a dollar the Tempered Chest Plate is the cheapest skin in the entire collection, and it's not a throwaway. The front plate catches a bright gold-to-magenta bloom across the center with purple shoulders and black webbing. For that kind of pocket change on a Metal Chest Plate there is genuinely no reason not to own it.

Tempered Roadsign Pants

Tempered Roadsign Pants (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

The Road Sign Kilt version leans cooler than the rest of the set: electric blue edging on deep violet plates, with the purple flare showing through on the side panels. It's around $3, the priciest of the wearables after the Mask, and it's the piece that ties the kit together in third person. The matching Road Sign Jacket runs about $1.50 and the boots come in under a dollar.

Tempered Base Skins: Doors, Boxes and the Glow

Tempered Garage Door

Tempered Garage Door (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

This is the one that turns heads from across the map. The Tempered Garage Door is a glow variant: three angular panels lit from behind in gold, magenta and violet, framed in black steel. At around $5 it's the most expensive non-weapon in the set after the Mask, and for good reason: a lit garage door is a flex and a landmark at the same time. It's a regular highlight in our full garage door skins guide and in the wider Rust glowing skins guide.

Tempered Sheet Metal Double Door

Tempered Sheet Metal Double Door (Rust) - buy on Skin.Land

Same glow treatment, half the price: around $3, with roughly forty copies listed — the deepest stock of any Tempered base piece. Twin panels throw purple and gold light through a chevron cut in the plating, set in a corrugated metal frame. It's the cheapest way to get the Tempered glow on your airlock, and you can see how it stacks up against the competition in our complete double door skins guide. The matching sheet metal door is around $4 but there's typically only a copy or two listed, so grab it when you see it.

Round out the base with the Tempered Large Box at about $1.50, the Tempered Small Wood Box at roughly $2 and the Tempered Bed at about the same. All seven base pieces together come to around $20.

Is the Complete Tempered Kit Worth It in 2026?

Depends entirely on which half you mean. The 34 cheap pieces are an obvious yes: around $70 buys you a full weapon rack, a full outfit and a glowing base, all matching, all from a 2016 collection that is no longer sold. Nothing else in Rust gets you that much visual consistency for that little — and it all came out of one creator's head.

The two grails are a different conversation. The Mp5 and the Mask are collector items priced by scarcity, and you're paying roughly eight times the cost of the other 34 skins combined for two of them. If you want the complete set for its own sake, that's the toll. If you want to look like you run Tempered, the AK47, the Thompson and the glowing garage door do 90% of the job for pocket change. Either way, once the skins are in your inventory you apply them from the item's skin menu or at a repair bench. Our guide on how to equip skins in Rust walks through it if you've never done it.

FAQ

How many Tempered skins are there in Rust?

Milho Frito's Workshop collection lists 75 Tempered submissions, but not all of them were accepted into the game. On Skin.Land, 36 Tempered skins are currently tradable and listed, spread across more than 800 individual offers: 15 weapons, 14 clothing and armor pieces, and 7 base items like doors, boxes and the bed.

Why is the Tempered Mp5 so expensive?

Supply, not stats. The Tempered Mp5 came out of the Rust item store back in 2016 and hasn't been on sale there since, so the only copies around are the ones already sitting in player inventories. Combine that near-fixed pool with a finish the community has wanted since 2016 and you get a skin sitting near the $380 mark while its stablemates cost a couple of dollars.

What is the cheapest Tempered skin in Rust?

The Tempered Chest Plate, which sits a little above the fifty-cent mark. Behind it come the Tempered Boots at roughly $0.70 and the Tempered Steel LR300 just under a dollar. All three together still cost less than $2.50, which is the quickest way to start a Tempered kit without touching the grails — a full outfit for the price of a coffee.

Do Tempered skins give any advantage in Rust?

No. Rust skins are purely cosmetic. A Tempered AK47 has identical damage, recoil and durability to a default one, and the glowing doors are no tougher than plain sheet metal. The one practical trade-off is visibility: a glowing garage door makes your base easier to spot at night, which is a flex and a liability depending on your server.

Which Tempered skins glow in the dark?

The glow variants are the garage door, the sheet metal door, the sheet metal double door, the armored door, the large wood box and the bed. Their panels are lit from inside, so they stay bright after sunset. The weapons and clothing in the set don't glow; their shimmer comes from the material, not from emitted light.

Can you still buy the Tempered kit from the Rust item store?

Not as a bundle. Individual Tempered items appeared in the Rust item store over the years and the older ones, including the Mp5 and the Mask, are no longer sold there, so the only way to get them is from other players through the Steam Community Market or a marketplace. All 36 listed pieces are available on Skin.Land's Rust catalog, which is also where the prices in this guide come from.
