AK-47 | Black Laminate (Minimal Wear)
The AK-47 | Black Laminate (Minimal Wear) is a Mil-Spec rifle skin with a gray-and-black wood-grain laminate on the AK's wooden parts and bare, unpainted metal. Minimal Wear keeps the wood looking clean and light, just a notch below Factory New, for a slightly friendlier price.
Design
Valve built the AK-47 | Black Laminate as a minimalist finish: the laminate goes on the wooden parts alone — stock, handguard, and grip — in gray and black wood-grain tones, and the metal is left unpainted. The result is a restrained, understated look that trades graphics and bright color for natural grain.
AK-47 | Black Laminate (Minimal Wear) Float and Wear
At Minimal Wear the finish shows only the faintest darkening on the wooden stock, handguard, and grip, and since the metal is unpainted it isn't affected at all. The result is almost indistinguishable from Factory New at normal viewing distance. For most players this grade is the smart middle ground — clean wood without the top-grade premium.
AK-47 | Black Laminate Rarity
Rarity: Mil-Spec Grade, the blue tier. It's the entry grade of standard weapon skins and the one obtained most often, sitting at the base of the paid-skin grades far beneath the pink and red tiers.
AK-47 | Black Laminate Case and Collection
The AK-47 | Black Laminate comes from The Vertigo Collection, which arrived with the Arms Deal update in August 2013. Being a Mil-Spec makes it the set's most common grade, showing up around 80% of the time, while its Souvenir copies originate in the Berlin 2019 Vertigo Souvenir Package.
AK-47 | Black Laminate Patterns
There's no random pattern variation on the AK-47 | Black Laminate — the laminate grain is placed identically on every copy, so there's no paint seed or blue gem to chase. What separates one copy from another is wear and float, nothing more.
StatTrak & Souvenir
The AK-47 | Black Laminate has no StatTrak edition. StatTrak counters are rolled on unbox from weapon cases, and this finish isn't handed out through such a case, so none was ever made for it. It does have a Souvenir edition, however — Souvenir weapons drop from Major-tournament souvenir packages, and Black Laminate featured in the Berlin 2019 Vertigo Souvenir Package, giving it real Major provenance.
AK-47 | Black Laminate Price
Minimal Wear sits just below Factory New on the price ladder while looking nearly identical, which makes it a strong value within the range. As a Mil-Spec skin it stays budget-friendly across the board, so this is an easy, affordable way into the classic laminate look. It's available to buy on Skin.Land with instant delivery and no hidden fees.
FAQ
Does Minimal Wear look worn?
Barely. Only the wooden parts pick up wear, and at Minimal Wear that amounts to the faintest darkening of the grain — the metal stays exactly as it is. At a glance it's very close to Factory New, which is a big part of why Minimal Wear is such a popular pick for this finish.
Is Minimal Wear the best value AK-47 | Black Laminate?
For a lot of buyers, yes. It costs less than Factory New but looks almost the same because wear only lightly touches the wood, and it's cleaner than Field-Tested. If you want the best balance of clean looks and price, Minimal Wear is the sweet spot of the ladder.
Why does the AK-47 | Black Laminate look so consistent across wears?
Because the laminate is painted only on the wooden stock, handguard, and grip, while the metal is left bare. Float darkens the wood as it rises but never touches the metal, so the skin holds a very steady look from Factory New down through the worn grades.
