M4A4 | X-Ray (Field-Tested)
The M4A4 | X-Ray (Field-Tested) is a Covert rifle skin styled like an X-Ray scan, showing the rifle's internals over a gray shell. Field-Tested is the most affordable and most common way to own the finish, trading a touch of surface wear for the lowest price of the three grades.
Design
At its core the finish is a gray-bodied M4 with its inner mechanisms exposed as though viewed through an X-Ray — a cold, technological look that skips flashy color for a diagram-like aesthetic. It's a Valve in-house design, and that scanned, sci-fi concept is what gives the skin its identity.
M4A4 | X-Ray (Field-Tested) Float and Wear
Field-Tested is the lowest grade this finish reaches, since the float is capped at 0.30 and never climbs into Well-Worn territory. Here the gray plating picks up light scuffing along the edges and high-contact areas, though the internal-diagram artwork stays readable and the muted base masks minor scratches fairly well. For players who want the X-Ray look without paying up, this is the entry point.
M4A4 | X-Ray Rarity
Rarity: Covert — the red tier, which sits at the very top of the standard weapon grades, one step above pink Classified. It's a rare grade to see come out of a case.
M4A4 | X-Ray Case and Collection
The X-Ray sits in The eSports 2013 Winter Collection and drops from the eSports 2013 Winter Case, released with the Winter Offensive update in December 2013. As a group the Covert tier unboxes roughly 0.64% of the time (that rate is shared across the tier's skins), and because this old case is out of the active drop pool, supply stays fixed — the market, not fresh unboxing, is where nearly all copies come from now.
M4A4 | X-Ray Patterns
Since the scanned-internals design is placed the same on every X-Ray, the finish has no random pattern variation — nothing like a paint seed or blue gem to hunt for. Wear and float are all that set one copy apart from the next.
StatTrak & Souvenir
You'll also find a StatTrak™ M4A4 | X-Ray, which brings a confirmed-kill counter along for the ride; it's rarer and more expensive than the plain drop from the same case, and the counter is permanent, following the item through every trade or sale. There's no Souvenir edition — Souvenir weapons are produced only from Major-tournament souvenir packages, and this finish came from a case, not a Major.
M4A4 | X-Ray Price
Field-Tested is the cheapest grade of the skin, sitting below both Minimal Wear and Factory New — the budget-friendly route into the X-Ray look for players who care more about the design than a flawless surface. It's still a premium M4A4 finish, just the most accessible way in. It's available to buy on Skin.Land with instant delivery and no hidden fees.
FAQ
Does the Field-Tested X-Ray look worn?
A little, but not badly. Expect light scuffing along the edges and grip, while the internal-diagram artwork over the body stays clearly legible. The muted gray base hides minor wear better than a bright finish would, so a Field-Tested copy still reads as a solid X-Ray in-game rather than a beaten-up one.
Why can't I find a Battle-Scarred X-Ray?
Because the finish is float-capped at 0.30, it never reaches the heavier wear grades. Field-Tested is as worn as it gets — Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred don't exist for this skin, leaving Factory New, Minimal Wear, and Field-Tested as the only options.
Is Field-Tested the best-value X-Ray?
If you want the lowest entry price, yes. It's the cheapest and most common grade, and the cool gray base keeps light wear from standing out much, so the design still lands. Buyers chasing a sharper surface step up to Minimal Wear or Factory New, but Field-Tested gives you the same concept for less.
