USP-S | Check Engine (Field-Tested)
The USP-S | Check Engine (Field-Tested) is a Mil-Spec pistol skin with a bold red body and a sprayed red mesh pattern, in the most common, everyday condition. It's the go-to grade for players who want the loud red look without paying for the higher tiers.
Design
The design says everything with one color — a bold red base carrying a spray-painted red mesh pattern, a Valve finish that skips graphics for a single saturated statement. It comes with a fitting in-game line, "You should have that looked at…", riffing on the warning light the name references.
USP-S | Check Engine (Field-Tested) Float and Wear
Field-Tested falls in the middle of the finish's 0.00–0.60 float range, and here the wear becomes visible. Expect scratching along the slide edges and grip, and because the red base is bright it tends to show that scuffing more openly than a dark skin would. The mesh pattern and the overall red identity still come through clearly, so the skin stays recognizable at range.
USP-S | Check Engine Rarity
Rarity: Mil-Spec Grade — the blue tier at the base of the standard weapon grades. It's the most common rarity around, and that accessibility is part of why the finish is easy on the wallet.
USP-S | Check Engine Case and Collection
Part of The 2018 Inferno Collection, this finish launched with the FACEIT 2018 update in September 2018. The Mil-Spec tier is the routine drop from the collection's Inferno Souvenir Packages at about 79.92% (a rate the whole tier shares), which means the bulk of the copies people own were picked up on the market.
USP-S | Check Engine Patterns
The finish carries no random pattern roll: the red mesh is placed the same on every copy, so there's no paint seed or "blue gem" to seek out. Copies differ from one another only by their wear and float values.
StatTrak & Souvenir
You won't find a StatTrak version of this skin. StatTrak weapons are generated exclusively from weapon cases, and this finish was never released in one — its route to players runs through souvenir packages. A Souvenir variant does exist, however, dropping from the Inferno Souvenir Packages at Major tournaments, beginning with London 2018.
USP-S | Check Engine Price
Field-Tested is the value heart of the range — cheaper than the two cleaner grades while still delivering the full red-mesh identity, which is why it's the most-traded condition. As an affordable mid-tier finish overall, it's about as accessible as the design gets without dropping into worn territory. It's available to buy on Skin.Land with instant delivery and no hidden fees.
FAQ
Does the Field-Tested Check Engine look worn?
Somewhat. You'll see scratching on the slide edges and grip, and the bright red base doesn't disguise it the way a dark skin would. Even so, the mesh pattern and bold color hold up well, so from normal viewing distance the finish still reads clearly as Check Engine rather than looking beaten up.
Is Field-Tested the best value Check Engine?
For most buyers, yes. It costs less than Factory New and Minimal Wear while keeping the whole red-mesh look intact, and it's the most plentiful grade on the market. Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred sit lower still if you want the cheapest entry and don't mind heavier, more obvious wear.
What makes the name a joke?
The name plays on a car's check-engine warning light, and the in-game line — "You should have that looked at…" — leans into the same gag. The all-red mesh finish mimics that dashboard-warning glow, so the whole skin is a running joke about a vehicle that needs a mechanic.
