When the sensitivity settings are constantly messed up, and you have to set them up again every time you start the game, it can be very frustrating. People play CS2 to become professionals or just for fun, and they don't want to spend their time constantly adjusting the settings. Next, we will discuss several causes of this problem and provide solutions.

Main Reason Why CS2 Sensitivity Is Not Saving

The reasons we will discuss below can lead not only to problems with sensitivity, but also to issues with other game settings, such as the crosshair and sound.

Updates

Sometimes it happens that Valve developers make updates that change the game settings on their own and do not notify the players in time.

It is even worse when an update changes the game code, which usually causes your saved settings to be reset to default.

Failure of Configuration Files

The purpose of configuration files is to save your game settings so that you don't have to reenter them every time you start the game and waste your time.

However, like any other file, configuration files are not 100% protected from bugs or crashes that may occur during gameplay.

If there is an unexpected power outage in your home and your computer shuts down improperly, it can also cause damage to your configuration files. The problem is that exiting the game incorrectly can cause the settings to be saved incorrectly and potentially cause them to malfunction.

Failure of Game Files

This is not the main reason for the sensitivity problems in CS2, but it happens sometimes. It can be that you have a missing file in your game directory, for example, with textures for the Mirage map, and it somehow, known only to the developers, affects the sensitivity settings.

Conflict with Other Programs

In the practice of players, there were cases when screen recording software, such as Fraps, disrupted mouse sensitivity and other settings. At the same time, other software worked perfectly with CS2.

We also consider it necessary to mention that playing with Discord enabled can lead to a failure of settings.

Conflict in Launch Parameters and Between Saves

If you like to write various commands in the launch options field that make your gameplay easier or give you a better gaming experience, then you should be wary. You may have unknowingly entered a command that disrupts your sensitivity settings.

Another possible cause of your problems is a conflict between the save file stored on your computer and the save file stored on the Steam cloud. The conflict arises because these two saves may contain different configuration files. Steam prefers cloud-based saves.

Game Bugs

If none of the above reasons apply to your situation, you may be experiencing bugs or errors in the game caused by the developers.

How to Fix CS2 Settings Keep Resetting Issue

The developers and the community haven't left these issues unattended. Below, we will discuss the steps you can take to fix the sensitivity reset.

Rolling Back Updates

If you've lost your sensitivity settings due to installing a new update, try switching back to the old version. In this case, it's advisable to wait for Valve to release a patch or a fixed version of the update.

Solving Issues with Configuration Files

There are two ways to solve this problem.

The first way. You need to go to the game folder on your computer and find the cfg subfolder, which contains the configuration files. Then, you need to create a new autoexec.cfg file, which will automatically activate the configuration settings you want. You can create this file using the Notepad program. In the file, enter the sensitivity settings you want, such as sensitivity 1.5. You can also add other settings if you wish. Finally, add the host_wtiteconfig command at the end of the file to ensure that the settings are saved automatically. Save the file and place it in the cfg subfolder.

The second way. Assign a “Read-only” parameter to the configuration file. This way you will protect the settings you have set from being overwritten. Each time you start the game again, the computer will extract the settings from your file exactly in the settings that you specified.

This is how it's done. In the cfg subfolder, create a completely new config file. Enter all the settings that you find useful or necessary, and that you don't want to reconfigure every time you log in to the game. Save the file. Now, make the "Read-only" option active. Right-click on the file, go to Properties, and then check the "Read-only" box.

Fixing Game Files

To check the game files, you need to go to Steam and find CS2 in the list of games. After that, you need to open the menu by right-clicking on the game icon and selecting Properties. Once the new window opens, look for the tab called Installed Files. Click on it. Then, click on the Verify Integrity of Game Files button.

Next, you need to be patient. The check may take a long time, up to 30 minutes. Once the check is complete, Steam will automatically replace any damaged files.

Then try setting the sensitivity settings you're interested in again.

Resolving Conflicts with Other Programs

In principle, there is nothing complicated here. You need to make a simple choice: do you intend to play CS2 now or use a third-party program? Run one or the other.

If you are recording a screen video and your program is disrupting the sensitivity settings in CS2, then replace this program with another.

Resolving Conflicts in Launch Parameters and Between Saves

In the settings, find the launch options field where you enter commands. Try removing all the commands from there and restarting the game. IMPORTANT: save these commands in a different location to avoid having to collect them again and wasting time.

If the sensitivity doesn't change without commands, try adding a single command to the launch options field and restarting the game again. Check the sensitivity settings again. If everything is fine, add another command and check again. Then add another command. Do this until you find the command that's ruining your game.

As for the conflict between local and cloud saves. Here we recommend that you disable cloud saves. Everything is done, as usual, through Steam. You are looking for the CS2 icon, right-click the menu. Then click on Properties. After the window opens, go to the General tab. Once there, deactivate the sync.

From now on, all configuration saves and settings will remain only on your computer.

What to Do With Bugs?

Bugs are the only problem for which there is usually no quick solution. In this case, you need to report the issue through the Steam support service and hope that the developers will fix the code quickly enough. Sometimes, other players find interesting solutions that help eliminate problems caused by bugs. We recommend that you periodically check the official game forum to stay updated on any new information.
