The M4A1-S | Basilisk (Battle-Scarred) is a Restricted rifle skin with a dark brushed-steel body and an etched coiled serpent, in its most heavily worn condition. It's the cheapest way into the finish, trading surface condition for the lowest entry price.
Design
Basilisk keeps things restrained: an etched coiled serpent running across a dark brushed-steel base, a Patina look that trades busy graphics for muted contrast between matte metal and silver-gray engraving. Created by the community artist Gaunt, it ships with a fitting in-game line: "It's rude to stare, but war isn't the time for pleasantries."
M4A1-S | Basilisk (Battle-Scarred) Float and Wear
At Battle-Scarred the finish wears its damage openly — heavy scuffing and metal dulling spread across the body, though the etched serpent survives as the anchor that keeps the skin readable. This finish is float-capped at 0.68 rather than the full 1.0, so its Battle-Scarred copies never reach the most extreme end of the wear scale, and the design stays legible even at its roughest. The full range spans 0.00–0.68, with Well-Worn the next grade up.
M4A1-S | Basilisk Rarity
Rarity: Restricted, the pink-purple tier. It sits above Mil-Spec and directly below Classified among the standard weapon grades, and it's a reasonably uncommon grade to unbox.
M4A1-S | Basilisk Case and Collection
The Basilisk is a member of The Vanguard Collection and is unboxed from the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case, released together with Operation Vanguard in November 2014. As a group the Restricted tier drops around 15.98% of the time from the case (the rate is shared across the tier's skins), and because the case is out of the active drop pool, supply is fixed — the market, not unboxing, is where most copies come from.
M4A1-S | Basilisk Patterns
Because the etched serpent and brushed metal sit the same way on every Basilisk, the finish has no random pattern variation — nothing like a paint seed or "blue gem" to hunt for. Wear and float are all that separate one copy from the next.
StatTrak & Souvenir
There's also a StatTrak™ Basilisk, which adds a confirmed-kill counter and drops from the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case; it's rarer and pricier than the standard drop, and the counter is permanent, following the item through every trade or sale. No Souvenir variant exists — Souvenir weapons only come from Major-tournament packages, and this finish was never featured as a Major drop.

Is the Battle-Scarred Basilisk still recognizable?
Yes. Despite the heavy scuffing, the dark steel base and etched serpent keep the design clearly readable at a glance in-game. Battle-Scarred is about accepting visible wear in exchange for the lowest price, not losing the look entirely.
Why doesn't the Battle-Scarred Basilisk look completely trashed?
Because the finish is float-capped at 0.68 rather than the full 1.0, its Battle-Scarred copies never reach the most extreme wear. Combined with a dark Patina base that hides damage, the Basilisk stays more legible here than many lighter-colored skins do at the same grade.
Which gloves go with the Basilisk?
