M4A4 | Desolate Space (Field-Tested)
The M4A4 | Desolate Space (Field-Tested) is a Classified rifle skin with a cosmic scene — an astronaut, planets, and skulls in blue and cyan — painted across the body. Field-Tested is the most common and recognizable way to own it, picking up a little honest wear while keeping the artwork clear, all for a mid-range price.
Design
At its heart the finish is a deep-space tableau: an astronaut set adrift among planets and drifting skulls, the scene washed in blue and cyan light. Community artist Andy built the design, and it comes with a fittingly bleak in-game line — "We've lost contact" — that plays up the marooned-in-space idea.
M4A4 | Desolate Space (Field-Tested) Float and Wear
At Field-Tested the finish takes on light scratching along the edges and raised parts of the rifle, but the busy cosmic scene absorbs the wear so the astronaut and planets still read clearly at a glance. This is the grade most players picture when they think of the skin — the sweet spot where the look holds up and the price eases off from the higher exteriors.
M4A4 | Desolate Space Rarity
Rarity here is Classified: the pink tier, one step under Covert and second from the top of the standard weapon grades. That makes it a genuinely uncommon pull from any case.
M4A4 | Desolate Space Case and Collection
This skin sits in The Gamma Collection and comes out of the Gamma Case, released with the Gamma Exposure update back in June 2016. As a group the Classified tier unboxes around 3.2% of the time (that rate is shared across the tier's skins), and because the Gamma Case is no longer in the active drop pool, supply stays fixed — the market, not fresh unboxing, is where most copies come from today.
M4A4 | Desolate Space Patterns
Every copy carries the same cosmic layout, so the finish has no random pattern variation — nothing like a paint seed or "blue gem" to seek out. What separates one example from the next is purely its wear and float, not any shift in the artwork.
StatTrak & Souvenir
You can also find a StatTrak™ M4A4 | Desolate Space, which tacks on a confirmed-kill counter; it's a scarcer and more expensive drop than the standard finish, and that counter is permanent — it follows the item through trades and sales. A Souvenir edition doesn't exist, since Souvenir weapons only come from Major-tournament souvenir packages, and the Gamma Case has never been part of a Major.
M4A4 | Desolate Space Price
Field-Tested is the value heart of the range — cheaper than Minimal Wear while keeping the space scene easy to make out, which is why it's the grade most buyers reach for. It keeps this finish firmly in affordable mid-tier M4A4 territory. It's available to buy on Skin.Land with instant delivery and no hidden fees.
FAQ
How worn does the Field-Tested version look?
Only lightly. Expect faint scratches on the edges and raised sections, but the detailed cosmic artwork hides most of it, so the astronaut and planets stay easy to read in-game. It's noticeably more worn than Minimal Wear on close inspection, yet still reads as a tidy, presentable example from normal viewing distance.
Why is Field-Tested so popular for this skin?
It's the balance point. Field-Tested costs less than the higher grades but the busy space scene shrugs off the extra wear, so you keep almost all of the visual impact for a friendlier price. It's also the most common exterior on the market, which makes it the easiest grade to find and buy.
Which gloves match Desolate Space in a loadout?
The blue-and-cyan cosmic palette calls for cool-toned gloves, so blue or teal wraps are the obvious fit — anything with icy or aqua accents ties into the space lighting. If you'd rather the rifle's artwork lead, darker gloves with a hint of blue keep the loadout coherent without stealing focus.
