The M4A4 is CS2's classic Counter-Terrorist assault rifle — the full-auto, 30-round successor to the original M4A1 carbine, and the louder, higher-capacity alternative to the silenced M4A1-S. This tier list ranks all 51 M4A4 finishes currently listed on Skin.Land across five tiers — S through D — by visual design, community demand, and price-to-value ratio, with 2026 prices for every single one.

What Is the M4A4?

The M4A4 became CS:GO's standard Counter-Terrorist rifle when it replaced the original M4A1 carbine carried over from CS 1.6 and Source, and it has kept that role through CS2. In August 2013 Valve added the M4A1-S as a silenced sibling, giving CT players a choice: the M4A4's bigger 30-round magazine and louder report, or the M4A1-S's suppressor and smaller mag. Both remain CT-side staples today — see our full M4A4 vs M4A1-S comparison if you're deciding which one to run. Skin-wise, the M4A4 has one of the widest ranges in the game: everything from a Contraband grail worth thousands to sub-$1 Mil-Spec camo patterns.

S-Tier: The Icons

S-Tier is reserved for the M4A4 skins every CS player recognizes on sight — the designs that defined the weapon's identity and have held their status for a decade or more.

M4A4 | Howl

M4A4 | Howl (Field-Tested) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $4,324 (FT) - $7,153 (FN) | Rarity: Contraband

There's only one Contraband weapon skin in CS history, and this is it. A snarling red-and-black wolf head wraps the receiver over a matching red camo pattern — a design that was pulled from active circulation in 2014 after a copyright dispute over stolen artwork, preventing new Howls from being created through normal drops, cases, or trade-ups, and creating a rarity tier Valve has never used again since.

Best buy: Field-Tested at $4,324 — the cheapest way into ownership.

M4A4 | Asiimov

M4A4 | Asiimov (Battle-Scarred) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $74 (BS) - $204 (FT) | Rarity: Covert

Asiimov's white-and-orange sci-fi chassis is arguably the single most recognizable skin design in all of CS2, and the M4A4 version remains one of the most recognizable applications of it. There's no Factory New or Minimal Wear for this one — the float range starts at 0.18, so Field-Tested is as clean as it gets, and Battle-Scarred still reads as unmistakably Asiimov thanks to the design's high-contrast blocking.

Best buy: Battle-Scarred at $74 — the scuffs barely register against this pattern.

M4A4 | Poseidon

M4A4 | Poseidon (Field-Tested) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $1,118 (FT) - $1,495 (FN) | Rarity: Classified

A teal-and-steel finish depicting Poseidon battling a sea monster with a golden trident, released back in 2015 during Operation Bloodhound. It's technically "only" Classified rarity, but the price tag alone puts it firmly among the M4A4's grails — a reminder that rarity tier and real-world value don't always line up. No Well-Worn or Battle-Scarred exists; the float caps out at 0.33.

Best buy: Field-Tested at $1,118 — the cheapest of the three available wears, and still visually close to FN.

M4A4 | The Coalition

M4A4 | The Coalition (Battle-Scarred) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $116 (BS) - $1,150 (FN) | Rarity: Covert

Black-and-gold art-deco plating with a playing-card motif and gold-plated rail and sights — one of the most ostentatious designs on any rifle in the game. The wear gap here is enormous: Factory New commands a genuine grail price, while Battle-Scarred keeps most of the gold detailing intact for a fraction of the cost.

Best buy: Battle-Scarred at $116 — the smart entry point if you want the look without the FN premium.

M4A4 | Eye of Horus

M4A4 | Eye of Horus (Battle-Scarred) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $138 (BS) - $663 (FN) | Rarity: Covert

Gold-and-bronze Egyptian hieroglyphic engraving with teal accents and a red-tipped sight — a genuinely stunning, ornate piece that looks premium at every wear level. It comes from the Anubis Collection Package rather than a traditional weapon case, giving it a slightly different supply story than most Covert skins on this list.

Best buy: Battle-Scarred at $138 — still reads clearly as gold and teal even worn down.

A-Tier: Strong Picks

A-Tier skins don't have quite the universal name recognition of S-Tier, but each is a confidently recommended buy with a distinct look and solid demand.

M4A4 | Buzz Kill

M4A4 | Buzz Kill (Well-Worn) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $239 (WW) - $498 (FN) | Rarity: Covert

A yellow-and-black wasp-striped finish over an olive-camo grip, from the same Glove Case that put premium gloves on the map — see our gloves tier list for the rest of that case's lineup. The stripe pattern holds up well across all five wears, so there's no dramatic visual cliff to worry about.

Best buy: Well-Worn at $239

M4A4 | Daybreak

M4A4 | Daybreak (Field-Tested) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $434 (FT) - $677 (FN) | Rarity: Restricted

A gray-and-orange sunrise hex-camo pattern from The Rising Sun Collection. It's technically only Restricted rarity, but the tight, futuristic pattern and relatively low overall supply keep prices well above what most Restricted skins command.

Best buy: Field-Tested at $434

M4A4 | Hellfire

M4A4 | Hellfire (Well-Worn) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $63 (WW) - $341 (FN) | Rarity: Classified

A snarling red demon face over cream tribal-style linework, with flame accents running down the magazine — one of the more aggressive designs on this list. Operation Hydra Case skins tend to hold steady demand, and Hellfire is a good example of that pattern.

Best buy: Well-Worn at $63

M4A4 | Modern Hunter

M4A4 | Modern Hunter (Field-Tested) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $32 (FT) - $619 (FN) | Rarity: Restricted

Tan-and-gray woodland digital camo with a genuinely huge gap between Field-Tested and Factory New — check how wear affects a skin's look before assuming FT is "close enough." The pattern's texture actually reads better with a bit of grime, so this is one case where the cheaper wear isn't a compromise.

Best buy: Field-Tested at $32

M4A4 | Radiation Hazard

M4A4 | Radiation Hazard (Battle-Scarred) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $25 (BS) - $361 (FN) | Rarity: Mil-Spec

Bold black-and-orange diagonal hazard stripes — simple, but genuinely eye-catching, and one of the few Mil-Spec skins on this list with real staying power in the market. From the Nuke Collection, one of the original map-themed collections introduced in the 2013 Arms Deal update — it holds demand purely on looks, with no rarity-driven scarcity story behind it.

Best buy: Battle-Scarred at $25

M4A4 | Bullet Rain

M4A4 | Bullet Rain (Minimal Wear) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $77 (MW) - $235 (FN) | Rarity: Covert

Mint-teal handguard and receiver against a bold red diagonal-striped stock and rail — a striking, candy-cane-like contrast that stands out from the darker designs most of this list leans on. From the eSports 2014 Summer Case, a genuine piece of competitive CS history.

Best buy: Minimal Wear at $77

M4A4 | Full Throttle

M4A4 | Full Throttle (Battle-Scarred) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $22 (BS) - $184 (FN) | Rarity: Covert

A neon-green base slashed with dark angular streaks and fictitious drift-and-tuning brand logos — a loud, motorsport-inspired design that fits green-themed loadouts particularly well. It's one of the newest skins on this list, added to the Genesis Collection in September 2025.

Best buy: Battle-Scarred at $22

M4A4 | Red DDPAT

M4A4 | Red DDPAT (Field-Tested) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $22 (FT) - $116 (FN) | Rarity: Restricted

A red digital-camo reskin of the classic DDPAT pattern — simple, but the deep red reads as aggressive rather than gaudy. The FT-to-FN gap is wide for a Restricted skin, which makes the budget wear the obvious pick here.

Best buy: Field-Tested at $22

M4A4 | X-Ray

M4A4 | X-Ray (Minimal Wear) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $74 (MW) - $144 (FN) | Rarity: Covert

A translucent white-and-blue scan overlay that makes the receiver look like an actual X-ray of the rifle's internals — a genuinely unique concept among M4A4 finishes. No Field-Tested-and-below wears exist below Minimal Wear's cap, keeping the whole lineup relatively clean-looking.

Best buy: Minimal Wear at $74

M4A4 | Royal Paladin

M4A4 | Royal Paladin (Battle-Scarred) - buy on Skin.Land

Price: $69 (BS) - $202 (FN) | Rarity: Covert

Bronze-and-copper armor plating with white filigree detailing — a medieval-knight aesthetic that's rare among modern rifle skins. From the Revolver Case, and one of the more understated-yet-premium looks on this entire list.

Best buy: Battle-Scarred at $69

B-Tier: Solid with Trade-offs

B-Tier skins are good buys, but each comes with a catch — a steep price gap between wears, a niche design, or availability that's a bit thinner than the tiers above.

C-Tier: Budget Filler

C-Tier skins aren't bad, but they don't stand out either. They're fine as a cheap loadout option or trade-up filler, without much wow factor.

D-Tier: Avoid Unless Trade-Up

D-Tier skins have almost no visual identity and sit well under a dollar in most wears — good buying practice says these are only worth grabbing as trade-up contract material, not for actually running in a loadout.

FAQ

How many tiers are in this M4A4 skin tier list?

Five: S, A, B, C, and D. S-Tier holds the five most iconic finishes — Howl, Asiimov, Poseidon, The Coalition, and Eye of Horus. D-Tier covers the ten cheapest, least distinctive skins, mostly useful only as trade-up material.

What criteria were used to rank M4A4 skins?

Visual design, community demand and recognition, price-to-value ratio, and rarity class — but rarity and price don't automatically determine tier. Poseidon is only Classified rarity yet sits in S-Tier next to Contraband and Covert grails, because real market demand and pro usage outweigh the rarity label alone.

The same logic applies across other weapons — see our Desert Eagle skin tier list and the AK-47 skins tier list for comparable breakdowns.

Why is the M4A4 Howl worth thousands of dollars?

Howl is the only skin in CS history classified as Contraband. It was pulled from active drop pools in 2014 after a copyright dispute over its original artwork, permanently freezing supply at whatever amount already existed. Valve has never reused the Contraband rarity since, which keeps Howl in a category of its own.

Is the M4A4 Asiimov the same design as the AWP Asiimov?

They share the same white-and-orange sci-fi visual identity and were both part of the broader Asiimov skin line, but each weapon's Asiimov has its own float range, wear availability, and price — the M4A4 version has no Factory New or Minimal Wear, while the AWP version does.

Which M4A4 skin is the best value for casual play?

Modern Hunter's Field-Tested wear at around $32 is hard to beat — the woodland camo pattern actually looks better with some wear on it, so you're not paying a premium for a cleaner look you don't need.

Do M4A4 skins affect gameplay in CS2?

No. All weapon skins, including every finish on this list, are purely cosmetic — they change appearance only and have zero effect on damage, recoil, or accuracy.
