A black AWP is harder to find than you'd expect — most of the sniper's famous finishes lean hard into color (Dragon Lore's gold, Asiimov's white, Medusa's green). This guide ranks the best black and near-black AWP skins, with the true matte-black finishes up top and a couple of dark grey/metallic alternatives further down, clearly labeled as such rather than passed off as pure black.

Top picks at a glance: AWP | Redline / AWP | Elite Build / AWP | Black Box

What Actually Counts as "Black" Here?

A skin either reads as genuinely black in-game, or it doesn't — and a surprising number of AWPs marketed as "black" turn out to be something else on closer inspection. A few that don't make this list at all:

  • AWP | Neo-Noir — the background is dark and grayscale, but the illustrated figures are rendered in electric pink, purple, and blue, which is what actually stands out.

  • AWP | Duality — despite a "black and white" reputation, the finish leans heavily on gold and pink depending on which side of the rifle you're looking at.

  • AWP | CMYK — a white base under a multicolor print, nowhere close to black.

A few picks below (Graphite, Exoskeleton, and Phobos) aren't pure black either, but they're dark, popular, or requested often enough that they earn a spot as clearly labeled alternatives rather than getting excluded outright.

1. AWP | Redline

AWP | Redline - buy on Skin.Land

The most recognizable black sniper skin in the game, the AWP | Redline is a deep carbon-black base with thin red pinstripes running down the body, scope, and stock. The red is there purely for contrast — black is what actually defines the look. Its float range tops out at Minimal Wear, so there's no Factory New version; Minimal Wear at around $80 is the cleanest exterior you can actually buy, and Field-Tested drops to around $35 if visible wear doesn't bother you. Our guide to how skin wear affects appearance has more on how float changes a finish.

2. AWP | Elite Build

AWP | Elite Build - buy on Skin.Land

The AWP | Elite Build is built on a matte black base layered with graphite panels, sand-tan accents, and sharp orange hazard stripes — black is the dominant color throughout, with the orange there purely for contrast rather than competing for attention. It's a Classified-rarity skin from the Operation Wildfire Case, released February 2016. Factory New runs around $160, while Field-Tested drops to around $13 for the same look with more visible wear.

3. AWP | Black Box

AWP | Black Box - buy on Skin.Land

Released July 8, 2026, as part of The Spy Tech Collection, the AWP | Black Box is a flat matte black paint job accented by a single orange stripe — a deliberately plain, utilitarian look with no camo or artwork competing with the black base. It's a Restricted-rarity skin, and it's now tradeable and widely available across marketplaces about two weeks after release. One caveat: it's newer than our own catalog snapshot, so the price above is a market estimate (roughly $60–65 Factory New, $8 Field-Tested) rather than a confirmed Skin.Land number — check the live listing for the current figure, and see our guide to what to check when buying CS2 skins before buying into a brand-new release like this one.

4. AWP | Graphite (dark grey, not true black)

AWP | Graphite - buy on Skin.Land

Worth being upfront about: the AWP | Graphite is not actually black. Its own in-game description says it's painted over a chrome base coat with metallic paints "of various reflectivities" — the result is dark slate and gunmetal triangles over a reflective aluminum surface, not a matte black paint job. It's a Classified-rarity skin from the Operation Bravo Case, released September 2013, and it's easily the priciest skin on this list at around $240 Factory New. If a dark, reflective, gunmetal look works for your loadout even without true black, it's a legitimate pick — just don't expect the flat, light-absorbing black of Redline or Elite Build.

5. AWP | Exoskeleton (dark metallic, not true black)

AWP | Exoskeleton - buy on Skin.Land

The AWP | Exoskeleton is another honest almost-black: a dark metallic base pressed with an interlocking skull pattern in bronze and graphite tones, mostly reading as shades of grey rather than solid black. It's a Restricted-rarity skin from The Broken Fang Collection, released December 2020, and it's noticeably cheaper than Graphite at around $70 Factory New, dropping to around $5 in Field-Tested or rougher — our cheap AWP skins guide has more picks in that range. Treat it as the budget dark-metallic option rather than a true-black substitute.

6. AWP | Black Nile

AWP | Black Nile - buy on Skin.Land

The AWP | Black Nile wraps the rifle in layered midnight-blue and charcoal patterns, with faint topographic lines running through the design — dark and moody rather than a flat single-tone black, but with none of the neon or warning-color accents that disqualify other "dark" AWPs. It's a Mil-Spec skin from The Anubis Collection, released April 2023, which keeps it one of the cheapest entries here — around $40 Factory New, dropping to around $3 in Field-Tested.

7. AWP | Phobos (olive/hazard, not black)

AWP | Phobos - buy on Skin.Land

Added here by request rather than as a strict fit: the AWP | Phobos leans into a Blade Runner-inspired hazard aesthetic — dark green metal panels, radioactive-yellow diagonal stripes, and metallic grey — with black present only in the background shading, not as the dominant color. It's a Restricted-rarity skin from the Gamma Case, released June 2016. It's also the cheapest entry on this list at around $16 Factory New, dropping to around $2 in Field-Tested. If you want the tactical, industrial vibe without insisting on true black, it works; if you want the loadout to actually read as black, skip it in favor of the picks above.

FAQ

What's the most iconic true-black AWP skin?

AWP | Redline — a deep carbon-black base with thin red pinstripes, and one of the most recognizable skins in the game regardless of color.

Is AWP | Graphite actually black?

No. Its own in-game description says it's painted over a chrome base coat with reflective metallic paints — the result reads as dark grey and gunmetal, not matte black. It still made this list as a labeled dark-metallic alternative.

Does AWP | Redline have a Factory New version?

No. Its float range caps at Minimal Wear, so that's the cleanest exterior available — there's no better version to chase.

Is AWP | Black Box worth buying right now?

It's tradeable and widely available as of a couple weeks after its July 8, 2026 release, with market prices around $60–65 Factory New. It's not yet in Skin.Land's own catalog snapshot used for this article, so check the live listing for the current number rather than relying on the estimate here.

What's the cheapest black or near-black AWP skin?

If it has to actually be black or near-black, AWP | Black Nile is the cheapest at around $40 Factory New (about $3 in Field-Tested). AWP | Phobos is cheaper still at around $16 Factory New, but it's olive and hazard-yellow rather than black, so it only counts if you're flexible on color.

Is AWP | Phobos a black skin?

No — it's included here as a labeled outlier rather than a real black finish. Its actual colors are olive-green panels and radioactive-yellow hazard stripes, with only background shading in black. Pick it for the tactical, hazard-suit look, not for a black loadout.

Why are there so few true-black AWP skins compared to other weapons?

The AWP's most popular designs lean into bold color and pattern work — gold, camouflage, neon, chrome — so flat black finishes are rarer here than on weapons like the AK-47, which has several solid black options.
