The Five-SeveN | Case Hardened (Battle-Scarred) is a Restricted pistol skin with Valve's blue-and-gold case-hardening finish, shown here at its roughest exterior. It's the cheapest entry point into a finish where pattern hunting matters more than surface condition.
Design
This finish gets its coloring from wood charcoal applied at high temperatures, leaving a blue-and-gold stain across the metal that varies from copy to copy. Credited to Valve, it comes with a matching in-game line: "A little color never hurt anyone."
Five-SeveN | Case Hardened (Battle-Scarred) Float and Wear
The finish's float range runs the full 0.00 to 1.00, and Battle-Scarred sits at the very top of that scale. Damage here is heavy — deep scratching and paint loss across the slide and grip — but the case-hardened stain is baked into the metal's color rather than sitting on top of it, so the pattern's blue-and-gold ratio still reads clearly underneath the wear.

Is Battle-Scarred a bad choice for this finish?
Not if pattern is your priority. The heavy wear affects the metal's surface texture, not the underlying blue-and-gold stain, so a Battle-Scarred copy with seed #278, #690, or #868 still shows off that prized coloring — just at the lowest price on the ladder.
Does Battle-Scarred hide the pattern at all?
No. The case-hardened coloring comes from the metal treatment itself, not a printed layer, so scratches and paint loss don't wash out the blue-to-gold ratio. What changes is texture and shine, not which pattern you're looking at.
Should I buy Battle-Scarred over a higher wear grade?
It depends on your goal. If you want the lowest possible price and don't mind visible damage, Battle-Scarred is the way in. If a smoother finish matters more than saving money, Field-Tested or higher gives a tidier look for a moderate step up in cost.
