M4A1-S | Basilisk (Field-Tested)
The M4A1-S | Basilisk (Field-Tested) is a Restricted rifle skin with a dark brushed-steel body and an etched coiled serpent. Field-Tested is the most common way to own it — honest wear on a finish whose dark tone shrugs most of it off, for well under the higher grades.
Design
At its core the finish is a Patina: a dark brushed-steel base marked by the etched outline of a coiled serpent, its skeletal curves and fangs rendered in muted silver-gray against the matte metal. It began as a community submission from the artist Gaunt, and it carries a fitting in-game line: "It's rude to stare, but war isn't the time for pleasantries."
M4A1-S | Basilisk (Field-Tested) Float and Wear
The finish runs a 0.00–0.68 float range, and Field-Tested lands in the middle of it. Here the steel base picks up light scratching along the edges and the magazine, but the dark Patina hides it so well that most copies still read even at a glance, and the silver serpent engraving holds up regardless of float. This is the grade most players picture when they think of the Basilisk — the sweet spot between looks and price.
M4A1-S | Basilisk Rarity
Rarity: Restricted — the pink-purple grade, ranked above Mil-Spec and beneath Classified, a mid-high slot among the standard weapon tiers. Pulling one from a case is reasonably uncommon.
M4A1-S | Basilisk Case and Collection
The Basilisk sits in The Vanguard Collection and is unboxed from the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case, released together with Operation Vanguard back in November 2014. As a group the Restricted tier drops around 15.98% of the time from the case (that odds figure is shared across the tier), and because the case is out of the active drop pool, supply stays fixed — the market, not unboxing, is where most copies come from.
M4A1-S | Basilisk Patterns
The Basilisk carries no random pattern roll: the etched serpent and brushed metal are placed the same on each copy, which means there's no paint seed or "blue gem" to track down. Copies differ only by wear and float.
StatTrak & Souvenir
You can also find a StatTrak™ Basilisk, which tacks on a confirmed-kill counter and drops from the Operation Vanguard Weapon Case; it's rarer and pricier than the plain skin, and that counter is permanent, following the item through every trade or sale. A Souvenir variant was never made — Souvenir weapons come only from Major-tournament packages, and this finish was never a Major drop.
M4A1-S | Basilisk Price
Field-Tested is the value sweet spot of the range — cheaper than Minimal Wear while keeping nearly the same look, which is a big part of why it's such an easy M4A1-S to recommend. It's an affordable mid-tier finish that won't strain a budget. It's available to buy on Skin.Land with instant delivery and no hidden fees.
FAQ
Does the Field-Tested Basilisk look worn?
Not much. The brushed-steel base and dark Patina mask scratches unusually well, so a Field-Tested copy reads as even to most eyes, with only light edge wear on close inspection. The etched serpent isn't affected by float at all, so the skin's signature detail always stands out.
Is Field-Tested the best value Basilisk?
For most buyers, yes. It costs less than Minimal Wear but looks almost identical thanks to the wear-hiding base, and it's the most plentiful grade on the market. Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred are cheaper still if you want the lowest entry price and don't mind heavier scuffing.
Which gloves go with the Basilisk?
Its muted black-and-gray palette suits a dark, understated loadout, so black, gunmetal, or gray gloves work best — a metallic pair echoes the brushed base, while plain black wraps keep the low-key, tactical vibe. Bright colors clash with the skin's subtle tone.
