M4A4 | The Battlestar (Field-Tested)
The M4A4 | The Battlestar (Field-Tested) is a Covert rifle skin with a space-station theme — an olive-and-gray body, a dark-green receiver, and small yellow accent details. Field-Tested is the most common and most affordable way to own it, carrying honest wear on a design that still reads well.
Design
The look draws on a spaceship interior: gray dominates the forend, grip, and stock, a dark-green receiver anchors the middle, and small yellow details break up the palette. It began as a Workshop submission from the artist Millenia, and it comes with an ominous in-game line: "Beware those who speak of the watchtower."
M4A4 | The Battlestar (Field-Tested) Float and Wear
At Field-Tested the finish shows light scuffing along the edges and raised areas, but the gray base and dark-green receiver take it in stride, so most copies still look presentable at a glance. The yellow accents remain visible too. This is the grade most players land on — the balance point between price and appearance.
M4A4 | The Battlestar Rarity
Rarity: Covert — the red grade, the top rung of the standard weapon skins and one step above Classified. It's the rarest tier to pull from any case, which gives the Battlestar a good deal of its standing.
M4A4 | The Battlestar Case and Collection
This finish sits in The Wildfire Collection and comes out of the Operation Wildfire Case, launched with Operation Wildfire on February 17, 2016. The Covert tier drops at about 0.64% across the case (an odds figure shared by the tier's skins), and because the Operation Wildfire Case is no longer in the active drop pool, supply stays fixed — the market is where most copies come from now.
M4A4 | The Battlestar Patterns
Because the gray body, green receiver, and yellow accents are placed the same on each copy, the Battlestar has no random pattern variation — nothing like a paint seed or "blue gem" to seek out. What sets one copy apart from the next is simply wear and float.
StatTrak & Souvenir
You can also find a StatTrak™ Battlestar, which brings a confirmed-kill counter along; it's a scarcer and costlier drop than the standard skin, and the counter is permanent, following the item through every trade or sale. A Souvenir version doesn't exist — those come only from Major-tournament packages, whereas this skin was released inside a case.
M4A4 | The Battlestar Price
Field-Tested is the value entry to the Battlestar — cheaper than Minimal Wear while keeping the design recognizable, which is why it's the most-traded grade of the skin. It's a premium Covert finish that still won't break the bank. It's available to buy on Skin.Land with instant delivery and no hidden fees.
FAQ
Does the Field-Tested Battlestar look worn?
Only lightly. Field-Tested adds visible scuffing on the edges and high spots, but the gray base and dark-green receiver mask it fairly well, so the skin still reads clearly in-game. The yellow accents and overall spaceship theme come through fine, which is why this grade is such a popular value pick.
Is Field-Tested the best value Battlestar?
For most buyers, yes. It costs a fair bit less than Minimal Wear and Factory New while keeping the design legible, and it's the easiest grade to find on the market. If you want to spend even less and don't mind heavier scuffing, Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred sit lower on the ladder.
Who designed the M4A4 | The Battlestar?
It's the work of the community artist Millenia, submitted through the Steam Workshop and picked up by Valve for The Wildfire Collection. The space-station concept — gray plating, a green receiver, and small yellow accents — is what gives the skin its distinctive sci-fi identity among M4A4 finishes.
