Prior to the release of the highly-awaited CS:GO successor, Valve had to up the ante and bring improvements on all fronts. That includes improved graphics, gunplay, sound and many more major and minute changes. Switching to Source 2 engine takes a toll on the computing requirements, and CS2 definitely disappointed many players with how poorly it ran on the older systems. It’s nowhere near the levels of Cyberpunk 2077 at launch, but the game still requires a decent setup for running CS2 smoothly. In this article, we’ll provide you with all the necessary information in regard to CS2 system requirements.

CS2 Minimum System Requirements

Unfortunately, for many players with the older setups, the minimum CS2 requirements are no longer as forgiving as they used to be for CS:GO. All the visual effects, the new smoke particle system and a plethora of other eye candy implementations make CS2 more demanding on your computer. The minimum specs are only applicable when playing at low settings at low resolution. One can hardly get the full CS2 experience playing on min specs system, but it is still better than nothing. Here are the minimum CS2 system requirements:

  • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit)

  • CPU: Intel Core i5-750 / AMD FX-6300

  • Memory: 8 GB RAM

  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 / Radeon RX 580

  • Storage: 60 GB free space

The CS2 recommended specs indicate what system is needed to run the game properly, without having to sacrifice too many graphics and resolution settings. This metric does not indicate the best computer you could possibly have, as you can have a CERN supercomputer running CS2 for all we care. The CS2 recommended system requirements are:

  • OS: Windows 11 (64-bit)

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-9700 / AMD Ryzen 7 2700X

  • Memory: 16 GB RAM

  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 / Radeon 5700 XT

  • Storage: 60 GB free space

CS2 Download Size - How Many GB is Counter Strike 2?

While Steam states that the necessary free disk space for CS2 is 85 GBs, the actual game size is around 60 GBs as of July 2024. Obviously, the necessary disk space will increase once the new maps and content start rolling out, so it is recommended to have some spare storage space just in case.

Good PC for CS2 - Can My PC Run CS2?

In order to have a smooth sailing, you might want to invest into a good graphics card and a RAM kit if your PC is still running a single 8 GB stick. If you’re looking for a decent laptop, try something in the realm of the 2-3 latest gen Intel i7 CPUs and at least a 6 GB graphics card. Many laptops sold with a 3050 graphics card, a deceitfully good name, have only 4 GB memory, which is not enough for the most current games. Most current Ryzen processors are also great for gaming, so getting a laptop with a recent Ryzen 7 might be a good idea.

Make sure that you optimize your PC, by installing the latest firmware, upgrading RAM and SSD, disabling unnecessary applications and processes, removing bloatware and performing overclocking if there’s an option.

Also, we’ve been asked a few times if skins affect the in-game performance, and the answer is no, they don't. Skins don’t take extra computing power to process, and even the wildest designs don’t eat up memory due to them utilizing Normal Maps to display 3D-looking effects. So, buying a new skin won’t make your gaming experience any worse.

Counter Strike Global Offensive (CS:GO) System Requirement

Compared to its successor, CS:GO used to be more forgiving to players with less capable PCs. Back in 2020, I even managed to have a number of low-FPS Mirage shootouts on my Zenbook with now-derelict Intel HD Graphics 520 integrated graphics card. Let’s look at how the recommended specs looked back in the times of de_cbble and de_train:

CS:GO Minimum specs:

  • OS: Windows 7/Vista/XP

  • CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 / AMD Phenom X3 8750

  • Memory: 4 GB RAM

  • Graphics: Any 256 or higher graphics card

  • Storage: 15 GB free space

Time flies, and any hardware becomes obsolete in a matter of years. Many players loved CS:GO for how accessible it was, but the game needed this change more than ever, and we hope that CS2 will make the best out of the vast possibilities of the latest hardware breakthroughs.

Is it possible to play CS2 with full HD with core i7 3820 and RTX 2060 super or 1660 super?

  • Skin.Land

Your setup would get around 80-100 FPS in CS:GO, but in CS2 the figure is going to be slightly lower. If you lower the graphics quality and resolution, you might get a somewhat playable experience. While the 2060 super is more than enough for CS2, essentially it will end up being bottlenecked by the older processor.

Feeling that they make cs2 more demanding and less optimized after every update, I might have a pc from a few years back but it should defenitaly run cs2 decently but after all these updates it's getting worse and worse, I do run on this- ASUS GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER DUAL EVO OC AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Processor ASUS ROG Strix B450-F GAMING, Socket-AM4 also 24 gb ram 2666MHz Might have to upgrade some specs but shouldn't be needed for counter strike, unfortunately they are going away from what CS is supposed to be and now it has to be all good looking and flashy colors with bad optimization.
