One of the most beloved gaming franchises turns 25 later this November, and we at Skin.Land decided to share a celebratory blog post while getting into the holiday spirit. Read more to reminisce about all the legendary moments in the game’s history and to speculate on what’s in store for CS2 in the near future.

When Is The Counter-Strike’s Birthday?

The true birthday of the franchise is considered to be the 9th of November 2000, the release day of Counter-Strike 1.6. Nevertheless, the public beta kicked off on June 19th, 1999, that's why there's confusion as to its Birthday. Valve made it clear that they consider the first date to be the start of the Counter-Strike franchise, since their 20th Anniversary workshop event with the CS20 case drop came out closer to November 1st five years ago. The overall consensus shared by the CS community states that the Counter-Strike's birthday is celebrated on the same day - 9th November.

When Is The CS2 Birthday?

Counter-Strike 2 was released on September 27, 2023. The release date of CS2 is relatively close to the franchise's release date, hence, many players assume that Valve may have something in store for them for the first anniversary of a long-awaited CS:GO successor. It is highly unlikely that Valve release an operation in honor of the CS 25th anniversary, let alone in honor of the first anniversary of CS2.

How Old Is CS:GO and CS2?

CS:GO is almost twelve years old, since it came out on August 21, 2012. This iteration revolutionized the franchise and the entire gaming industry with brand-new mechanics and by creating a virtual ecosystem that allows players to stand out with their unique equipment.  The introduction of virtual cosmetics shaped the way every FPS shooter and battle-royale game is being released now.

When the game started to feel clunky and outdated, Valve introduced players to a limited playtest of Counter-Strike 2, a more refined and refreshed continuation of the franchise, and then released it on September 27, 2023.

What To Expect For The CS2 Anniversary?

As of now, there were no official announcements on any upcoming in-game festivities. No news in regard to an upcoming operation either, if there's one. It appears that Valve is more concerned with the successful release of Deadlock, their upcoming 3rd person MOBA shooter.

Despite the novelty and a more visually pleasing experience, CS2 still feels very empty and lacking in terms of content, having cut out a lot of content from CS:GO and not offering anything new instead. It’s only right to release a brand-new operation on June 19th, thus satisfying a famished and dissatisfied playerbase. If Valve has something in store for us, then we should expect at least one case drop, with celebratory skins and a map or two. Unfortunately, we won’t witness the return of the legendary Cache just yet, as it’s coming somewhere in 2025, but Valve could bring back a few reworked War Games maps since they were gracious enough to give us the beloved Pool Day. These are just our speculations on the matter, but it’s unlikely that CS2 will go so far without a single case drop, so, fingers crossed!
