In CS2, Major tournaments are the pinnacle of competitive play. Alongside world-class gameplay, Valve offers players a chance to commemorate these historic events through exclusive items called Souvenir Tokens.

What Is a Souvenir Token?

A Souvenir Token is an exclusive digital currency tied to CS2 Major tournaments that allows players to collect match-specific memorabilia.

Before the IEM Cologne 2026 update, the system relied heavily on chance. Players earned tokens through the Viewer Pass Pick'Em challenge or store purchases, redeeming them for a map-specific Souvenir Package. Opening the keyless package granted a random weapon skin from that map's collection, adorned with gold stickers of the tournament, competing teams, and match MVP.

The IEM Cologne 2026 Major overhauled this system entirely, eliminating RNG in favor of the new Souvenir-O-Matic crafting system. Instead of hoping for a lucky drop, players now have total control over the skins and match memories they collect. Here is a look at a custom Souvenir-O-Matic skin, followed by a complete breakdown of how the old system compares to the new one.

Old vs. New System Comparison

Feature

Old System (Pre-Cologne 2026)

New System (Cologne 2026 onwards)

Souvenir Packages

Redeemed a Token for a map-specific Souvenir Package. Opening it gave a random skin.

Gone. Packages no longer exist. Replaced by the "Souvenir-O-Matic".

Getting a Souvenir

You opened a package and prayed to the RNG gods for a good drop.

Souvenir-O-Matic: You use an existing non-StatTrak skin from your inventory, pick a completed match, and pay a token fee to upgrade it.

Token Earnings

Coin upgrades (Silver, Gold, Diamond) gave exactly +1 Souvenir Token each.

Coin upgrades now grant 300 Tokens each, which function as a granular currency in the new Major Shop.

Sticker Purchases

You bought team/autograph capsules and received a random sticker.

Direct Purchase: No more capsules. You buy the exact sticker you want directly using Tokens.

Item Pricing

Tokens had a fixed real-world price (~$2.99). Capsules had fixed prices.

Dynamic Pricing: Sticker prices fluctuate based on real-time demand. High demand equals higher token cost.

Trade-Up Contracts

Souvenir skins could not be used in Trade-Up contracts.

Souvenir skins can now be used in Trade-Up contracts, dramatically altering the CS2 economy.

3 Game-Changing Mechanics in the New System

The "Souvenir-O-Matic"

This is the single largest shift to the souvenir system. Instead of getting a random skin from a map pool, you now have complete control. You can take an existing weapon from your inventory—even rare case collection items—select a match and a player, and the game will convert it into a Souvenir skin with the corresponding gold stickers. The conversion cost in Tokens scales dynamically depending on the weapon's rarity and the demand for the chosen stickers.

Souvenir Trade-Ups

Historically, souvenir weapons were dead-end items; you couldn't trade them up to higher-tier skins. The IEM Cologne 2026 update changed the rules by allowing players to place Souvenir weapons into standard Trade-Up contracts. This change breathed new life (and value) into older, low-tier souvenir items that previously sat dormant in player inventories.

Dynamic Sticker Pricing & Price Protection

Capsule gambling for specific stickers is entirely gone. In the new Major Shop, tokens act as a unified currency to buy specific stickers directly. However, prices are strictly demand-driven: highly popular players or teams will have much more expensive stickers than lesser-known ones. To prevent buyer's remorse during early market fluctuations, Valve implemented "Price Protection"—if a sticker's price drops by more than 25 tokens within 24 hours of your purchase, you are automatically refunded the difference.
