After a somewhat underwhelming year of small CS2 updates here and there, Valve came out swinging on October 2024 with The Armory update and bringing an entirely new type of customization to get everyone hyped up. The Weapon charms in CS2 are decorative items that can be attached to a weapon and can be bought and sold just like any other inventory item, or acquired in The Armory for 3 stars each. These items are also known as “gun buddies” and you can choose between cute bean-like figurines and more serious toy weapon charms.

Valorant had this feature for a while, and it was only right to give Counter-Strike 2 players the same treatment. Unlike Valorant, though, CS2 allows you to place Charms anywhere on your weapon, which gives the whole process more artistic liberty and the opportunity to come up with creative builds. By the way, if you came up with some cool combinations, make sure to share them with us on our social media channels and in the comments down below. Now, let’s get to the bottom of the latest CS2 addition.

What Are CS2 Weapon Charms?

The CS2 Weapon Charms are the latest mean of customization that serve as a decorative toy attached to a weapon. Weapon Charms join the ranks of skins, stickers, nametags, StatTrak counters and bring a whole different way of weapon personalization. The rumors around the release of Weapon Charms in CS:GO and later in CS2 had been going for ages, since the counterparts at Riot and Ubisoft implemented their own versions of gun buddies in their games prior. Finally, we have them in CS2 and currently, they come in only two types, but it is possible that Valve may introduce a plethora of new collections in the near future. The two current collections include:

  • Missing Link Charms

This collection consists of bean-like figurines featuring cartoonish depictions of well-known CS2 agent skins and other elements of lore, such as the Monster on Overpass. These poor guys have already been dubbed as “sausage persons” by none other than Valve’s creative team. All of these charms have various percentage of areas that change color depending on the template number.

  • Small Arms Charms

These keepsakes are meant to represent a toyish depiction of the cult-like Counter-Strike weapons, including knives, Tec-9, Mac 10, USP-S, M4A1-S, AK-47 and AWP. These also come with different patterns, which makes certain types more valuable. The amount of color change you may see depends on the specific charm type and the pattern number it has.

How to Attach Charms

If you want a cute charm to flop around your favorite skin while you’re moving, then here’s what you need to do:

  • Collect a Charm in The Armory (a charm costs 3 Stars each, equivalent to about $1.2)

  • Once you have it, go to Inventory and right-click the Charm

  • Then press “Attach Charm” and you’ll be greeted with the weapons from your inventory you can attach said charm to

  • Place it anywhere on the weapon (you should also consider taking a look from different angles using the buttons down in the middle)

  • You can detach these charms up to 3 times when you collect a charm. After that, you can purchase a Charm Detachment pack that sells for a dollar

What are the Charm Templates (Patterns)

As any other skin in CS2, charms have their own values and patterns. Now, Valve decided to assign a unique measure to charms and it is called a template. While it is pretty much the same concept as pattern, a template is a measure that mostly affects the color of a charm.

The charm template ranges up to a whopping 100,000, which means that the small changes in these values don’t have the same magnitude of variations in terms of visual representation. Simply put, the drastic changes in a charm’s appearance may be visible only when the template values are completely different.  Each charm has a unique set of features that changes its color, with some charms having less and some more percentage of possible visible changes. All these unique characteristics made the eager CS2 skin-trading community speculate which patterns are good and which ones are bad, and it obviously translated to the charms’ market prices. There are already pattern tiers that considered rare and common, and even a class of rare charm templates that are considered “overpay”. For example, the most desirable patterns for the AK charm are considered pure red or pure gold, while the best patterns for the Semi-Precious charm are considered pure emerald or so-called “purple gem”. It is quite early to confidently predict what patterns will be the most valuable in a long run, we can only speculate at this moment.

Conclusion

Usually, CS:GO and CS2 are the games that other companies “rip off” from, as per many players and esports pundits, but this is the first time we’ve seen the tables turn. However, the way the Weapons Charms were introduced in CS2 is so refreshing in many ways, mostly due to the creative liberties players can take when selecting where they want to attach said charm, and, of course, due to the implementation of patterns. We haven’t seen any negative reactions to charms so far, and we at Skin.Land are looking forward to offering weapon charms to our customers at the lowest prices on the market. By the way, if you’re looking for a website where you can buy and sell your CS2 skins fast and secure, then look no further and visit our store today! Also, we’ll be doing our charms tier list and a list of cool combinations in the coming weeks, so stay tuned for that. We hope this material was useful!
