Out of all console commands, only a select few are used by players on the regular basis. However, some commands are no longer functional due to the switch to CS2. Unfortunately, the Clear Decals command is one of them. The command that allowed players to improve clarity on the map is no longer accessible in official matchmaking. Here’s all you need to know about clearing decals in CS2.

CS:GO and CS2 Clear Decals

With the release of CS2, some visual improvements made the "r_cleardecals" command obsolete. While in CS:GO, this bind served the purpose of minimizing distraction and improving visibility, CS2 doesn’t feel like it lacks in these departments. Anyone old enough to remember an extremely dim Overpass where you could barely discern an enemy from surroundings can tell the difference between the visual perception of CS2 and CS:GO. In CS:GO, players would use a console command to make things easier to spot.

What are Clear Decals in CS2?

Decals are various particles in the game, including blood splatter, bullet impacts etc. They appear as a result of gameplay, oftentimes appearing after a slew of bullets hitting various surfaces or a player model being hit near a wall.

How To Clear Decals in CS:GO and CS2?

If you're running some sort of legacy version of CS:GO, this could be useful for you in 2024. However, this command's implementation in Counter-Strike 2 is highly restricted. The algorithm is pretty simple, but it can only be used in Private matchmaking or in a game with bots:

  • Start a private game with your pals or a game with bots

  • Open the console (~) and type "sv_cheats 1", then press Enter

  • Type or just copy and paste the "r_csgo_render_decals false" command and press Enter

  • You’re all set!

Now, if you want to bring back all the decals, including blood splatter and bullet holes, then you should just type "r_csgo_render_decals true" in the console and press Enter.

Unfortunately, this command only works in private matchmaking when you play with your friends or in a practice game with bots. You can no longer activate sv_cheats on the official matchmaking servers. However, considering the progress Valve has made in terms of improved visibility, there’s really no need to employ these outdated methods.
