For many years, players had to choose between MP5 and MP7, as these submachine guns occupied the same slot in inventory. CS2 changed this, allowing players to customize loadout to their heart’s content. But should you really be occupying two slots with these weapons if realistically you only need just one? In this article, we’ll go in-depth on what advantages each weapon has over the other and which SMG you should main in CS2. Let’s settle the MP5 vs MP7 question for good.

In-Depth Comparison Of The MP5 vs MP7 in CS:GO/CS

Fire rate

There’s a parity in a fire rate department, as both MP5-SD and MP7 share the same high fire rate of 750RPM. Plenty of rapid firepower, considering that SMGs are faster than pretty much any other weapon class aside from machine guns.

Spray pattern and control

Spray pattern is pretty much identical between MP5 and MP7. Both guns are fairly easy to control, as long as you spray with short bursts and clamp in the chest and head. The good news is that the recoil for both weapons is slightly lower compared to their predecessors in CS:GO.

Accurate range

No matter what SMG you choose, MP7 or MP5, you’ll be stuck with 14.38m of standing accurate range and 23.37m of crouching range on both guns. Despite them being drastically different in terms of visuals, they share a lot of similar qualities in Counter-Strike 2.

Key differences

The main difference lays in the damage charts, as MP7 outdamages its silenced counterpart by 2 points. However, MP5 wins in move speed, and if you love playing a lurker role, then you would love moving faster and having a silencer to keep your presence less noticeable.

MP5 vs MP7 Skins

Even though there are some differences, these two SMGs are still very similar. Visuals is the only department where they are drastically different. Currently, there are 34 MP7 skins and only 17 MP5 skins in CS2. Aside from the difference in terms of options, there’s a disparity in terms of rarity – MP7 has two Classified and one Covert skin, while MP5 cannot boast a single Covert skin. What’s even crazier is that the Covert Bloodsport MP7 skin costs not more than two dollars.

Out of these two, the most expensive is the Whiteout MP7, since it is extremely rare, and you have to be on a lookout for a new listing on the market. The ‘Whiteouts’ in Factory New and Minimal wear conditions are extremely hard to find.

The most expensive MP5 would be an Oxide Oasis skin from the 2021 Mirage collection. It has this rusty look with bronze main theme and specks of turquoise, which makes this skin very aesthetically pleasing.

Overall, the amount of skins for each weapon is enough for any demanding player. Most of these skins will set you back only a few dollars, which is not much compared to prices of knives, gloves, AWPs and even AK-47 skins.

Conclusion: Which one is Better - MP5 or MP7?

MP5 and MP7 are extremely similar in terms of stats and raw firepower, so you won’t miss out on some important features if you choose only one of them for your loadout. These guns are extremely useful for force buy rounds and can be deadly in mid-range. However, if you need a little bit more damage, then MP7 is the way to go. On the other hand, if you want to be more stealthy, then MP5 with a silencer and better mobility is your ticket.
