What is TrueView and why should we care?
As you may know, demo playback is not exactly the ideal representation of what you might have witnessed during the game. It is no surprise for anyone remotely familiar with CS:GO and CS2 that sometimes the direct shot to the head doesn’t register or another infuriating situation of that sort happens, which can be quite frustrating and confusing at the same time. And on the contrary, you can find yourself being a victim of a shot that didn’t look like it was going to hit, which can happen due to multiple reasons, including issues on the server end or unstable Internet connection with high ping.
TrueView is the latest quality-of-life addition to the game, that is supposed to give players a more accurate representation of the observed player’s experience by providing a re-run of a client-side prediction. Basically, a client-side prediction is a technology that masks negative effects of high latency connections on both sides. Now, you will have an option to explore the accurate representation of what you have witnessed in the game while reviewing demo recordings. The example below provided by Valve shows the difference between the old demo playback compared to the playback with TrueView activated.

Important notes on TrueView and its implementation
As of now, TrueView is deactivated when your current version of the game and the version of the recorded game don’t match. While this feature will drastically improve the overall accuracy of your POV, there are still some possible differences. For example, damage effects will have different timing during demo playback due to the way CPU and GPU work are pipelined. To get a full picture of each individual moment, TrueView will perform damage prediction on both the observed player and on enemies.
Other noteworthy Quality-of-Life updates
Fixed a case where air acceleration was clamped incorrectly while surfing.
Fixed a case where slowly surfing up a ramp was handled incorrectly due to misidentification as a jump apex.
Fix a bug causing “Delay Sniper Rifle Un-Scope after Shot” to be inconsistent.
Conclusion
While the last month in terms of CS2 updates was nothing but frantic, the first update of November is quite nice, actually. The implementation of TrueView will help players determine the more accurate representation of their POV in demo recordings. The visualization of accurate hit registration and an improved precise player experience is a great step towards a fairer gaming experience, especially when it comes to high stakes games and esports events.
