SG 553 | Gator Mesh (Field-Tested)
The SG 553 | Gator Mesh (Field-Tested) shows its freehand mesh-fabric texture with a moderate amount of honest wear. It's the classic, most commonly traded grade of this Industrial Grade rifle skin.
Design
Valve is behind this finish, applying green spray paint freehand through a mesh-fabric stencil to give the SG 553 a woven, textured look. There's no flavor text tied to it, so the stenciled pattern itself is the main draw.
SG 553 | Gator Mesh (Field-Tested) Float and Wear
Float across this finish spans 0 up to 0.60, and Field-Tested sits in the middle of that range. Light scratching shows up along the edges and stock here, but the woven mesh pattern remains fully legible — this is the grade most buyers picture when they think of Gator Mesh.
SG 553 | Gator Mesh Rarity
Rarity: Industrial Grade, the light-blue tier and second-lowest on the standard rifle-skin ladder. It's a common grade to encounter, though this finish's price runs above what's typical for the tier.
SG 553 | Gator Mesh Case and Collection
This finish is a Mirage Collection piece from the November 2013 update, with no dedicated case. Regular copies come from the collection via trade-up or collection drops, while Souvenir copies trace back to the DreamHack 2013 Souvenir Package and many Majors since.
SG 553 | Gator Mesh Patterns
The mesh-stencil artwork is fixed on every copy, so there's no pattern seed or blue-gem lookup involved with this finish. Float and wear are the only things that make one Gator Mesh copy look different from another.
StatTrak & Souvenir
Gator Mesh has never had a StatTrak version. It does come as a Souvenir finish, first appearing in the DreamHack 2013 Souvenir Package with numerous later Majors reissuing it, since Souvenir weapons are exclusively a tournament-package mechanic.
SG 553 | Gator Mesh Price
Field-Tested is the value grade on this ladder, cheaper than Minimal Wear while the mesh texture still reads clearly. For a finish that already trades at a premium for its rarity, this is the more approachable way in. It's available to buy on Skin.Land with instant delivery and no hidden fees.
FAQ
How worn does Field-Tested Gator Mesh look?
Light scratching typically appears along the stock and edges, but the mesh-stencil pattern stays visible throughout. It's a solid middle ground between the near-flawless Minimal Wear grade and the more heavily worn Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred copies.
Why does this common-tier skin cost more than expected?
Gator Mesh has been around since November 2013, one of the oldest SG 553 finishes still in circulation, and long-standing demand keeps its price elevated above a typical Industrial Grade skin. It's age and popularity driving the price, not rarity.
Is Field-Tested the smart buy for Gator Mesh?
For most buyers, yes — it costs less than Minimal Wear while the mesh texture still looks good from normal viewing distance. Choose a cleaner grade only if a slightly crisper surface matters more to you than the savings.
