What the StatTrak™ counter does

The StatTrak™ M4A4 | X-Ray (Field-Tested, FT) is the StatTrak™ copy of this skin — the same Covert finish, the same look, with a kill counter built into the model. At its core the finish is a gray-bodied M4 with its inner mechanisms exposed as though viewed through an X-Ray — a cold, technological look that skips flashy color for a diagram-like aesthetic. Field-Tested spans 0.15–0.38 on the float scale — the middle grade, and usually the easiest one to find on the market.

What StatTrak™ changes about the price of the M4A4 | X-Ray

The counter logs every confirmed kill you get with it and keeps the running total on the model. It belongs to the item and not to your account, so it travels with the skin through every trade and sale, and nothing sets it back to zero. A StatTrak™ Swap Tool moves a count between two StatTrak™ items of the same type, which is as close to a reset as the game allows.

Where a StatTrak™ copy comes from

A StatTrak™ copy is far scarcer than a plain one at the same finish and exterior, so it normally costs more. How much more follows the finish and the float rather than the number on the counter — a high kill count is a curiosity, not a price driver.

FAQ

The X-Ray sits in The eSports 2013 Winter Collection and drops from the eSports 2013 Winter Case, released with the Winter Offensive update in December 2013. StatTrak™ is settled at the drop: a copy either leaves the case with a counter or never has one, and it cannot be added afterwards.

Can the StatTrak counter on the M4A4 | X-Ray be reset?

No. The count only moves one way and stays with the item through every trade and sale. A StatTrak™ Swap Tool moves a count between two StatTrak™ items of the same type, which is as close to a reset as the game allows. It still cannot lower the number.

Does StatTrak change how the M4A4 | X-Ray looks?

No, apart from the counter on the model. The finish, the pattern and the float range are identical to the plain version, so at the same exterior the two look the same in hand.
