CS2 Loss Bonus Explained

In CS2, it is important not only to know the strategic subtleties or to have a cool aim, but also to understand the game economy. If you don't manage your money well, it may happen that in the final round you will be left without the best weapons, the necessary set of grenades and armor, and eventually lose the match. Alternatively, you will give your opponent a significant head start on the map in several rounds, which you simply will not be able to win back later. 

You can earn money in the game in the following ways: winning a round, making frags, or completing other tasks. At the same time, in order to give the losing team a chance to win back, the game has a Loss Bonus system.

Let's talk a little bit about what is the Loss Bonus in CS2. This is a system that allows a team to capitalize on defeats in rounds. Thanks to the Loss Bonus, the winning team does not have the opportunity to get far away from the opponent. Thus, the intrigue persists during the full game on the map, and not just at the beginning.

How Does the Loss Bonus System Work in CS2?

The game is based on a confrontation between two teams. One team plays as counter-terrorists (CT) and protects the bomb sites from the bomb being planted. The other team, the terrorists (T), on the contrary, attacks and seeks to blow up one of the bomb sites. 

There are differences in the structure of the CT and T economy, for example, in the cost of weapons, in the reward for completing tasks and, of course, in the Loss Bonus CS2 system.

CS2 CT Loss Bonus 

So, let's talk about the CS2 Loss Bonus system for CT. The amount of the reward depends on the number of consecutive rounds lost. Winning a round does not fully reset the Loss Bonus. Instead, after a win, the loss bonus level steps down by one tier, and after a loss it steps up by one tier (down to a minimum of the first-loss tier). Depending on the number of defeats in a row, the team earns:

• 1 loss - $1400.

• 2 losses in a row - $1900.

• 3 losses in a row - $2400.

• 4 losses in a row - $2900.

• 5 or more losses in a row - $3400.

A special exception has been made for pistol rounds. In this case, the CS2 round Loss Bonus is $1,900.

Let's give an example to make the system more understandable. The CT team lost 3 rounds in a row. It received $1,400 for the first loss, received $1,900 for the second loss, and received $2,400 for the third loss. The total reward was $1400 + $1900 + $2400 = $5700. Then the team won the round, so the Loss Bonus scoring system was reset. Next, the counter-terrorists lost the round again and earned $1,400 for the first loss.

CS2 T Loss Bonus

The specifics of playing for T is that they are forced to attack CT positions in the time allotted for the round (1 minute 55 seconds). If the terrorists have not planted a bomb by the end of the round and at least one of the terrorists remains alive, then they are considered defeated.

In order to additionally motivate terrorists to be active, there is a rule in the game: if the terrorists lose due to time running out without planting the bomb, then any terrorist who survives at the end of the round receives a Loss Bonus of $0. It follows that it makes no sense for terrorists to keep their weapons, except in the case when the economy is so bad that there is no money to buy powerful weapons for the next round.  Therefore, in most situations, it is much more profitable for terrorists to attack and put pressure on the enemy, even if the counter-terrorists have a numerical advantage, because the T team can win CS2 Loss Bonus due to their complete death.

The second important difference from CT is the presence of an additional $600 reward for losing a round in which the T team was able to plant the bomb, but did not prevent retaking and defusing it.

The values of the Loss Bonus will be indicated below in the case that all the terrorists were destroyed by CT:

• 1 loss - $1400.

• 2 losses in a row - $1900.

• 3 losses in a row - $2400.

• 4 losses in a row - $2900.

• 5 or more losses in a row - $3400.

• Losing the pistol round - $1900.

And an additional $600 for each lost round if the terrorists planted a bomb.

Min and Max Loss Bonus in CS2 

Let's start with the minimum amount of reward. For CT, it is $1400 for the first loss. As for T, they have a minimum of $0 in cases where they lose due to time running out without planting, and at least one terrorist survives.

The maximum amount of the Loss Bonus for both CT and T is the same and is equal to $3,400.

Accordingly, the CS2 Loss Bonus range, prescribed by the rules of the game, ranges from $0 to $3,400.
