What are Community Servers in CS2?
Community servers are non-official custom lobbies hosted by players and individual groups. These servers operate on rules established by owners and admins of said servers. There are countless types of community servers, including default and custom maps, custom game modes and unique features. The most popular types of community servers include:
Surf: servers where players test their movement skills in order to complete a custom-made course
Deathmatch: free-for-all or team deathmatch is a game mode where players compete for the most amount of individual kills, simultaneously practicing their aim and reflexes
Retake: this was a fan-favorite game mode, where the action took place when the C4 was already planted, helping players train the decision-making in fast-paced scenarios
AWP Maps: pretty self-explanatory, these maps allow players to snipe each other non-stop in an AWP-only deathmatch mode
How To Find CS2 Community Servers
There are a couple of ways you can go about finding CS2 community servers. Unfortunately, as it stands, your best bet is going to third-party websites and finding a populated server there. The websites like CS2Browser, Dixrix, Cybershoke, Xplay are currently the best option to find a server populated by players or bots with a few filters to narrow down the search.
How To Join and Play CS2 Community Servers?
Your best bet is using one of the websites, like CS2Browser and selecting a relatively populated server according to your preference. Here’s what you need to do:
Go to one of the above-mentioned websites
Select a server you need
Click Join Now to launch Steam and CS2
OR copy the address (Copy to clipboard) and open CS2
Open console (`) and enter “Connect” and insert the server’s address
You can also research communities and CS2 subreddits. Alternatively, you can use the official Steam Community Server Browser, but it’s in a pretty rough state, to say the least.
Why CS2 Community Servers Are Not Working?
Unfortunately, due to a number of undisclosed reasons, the official in-game Community Server search is a mess right now. One can barely find a real server populated by players, so it is better to use third-party websites, at least for the time being.
CS2 has little to no workshop support and poor server support, along with the lack of FastDL. For those who don’t know, FastDL allows to download files directly from a server rather than from third-party websites or workshop. Many existing custom servers are populated with bots whilst others are just empty.
Did They Remove Community Servers From CS2?
There are certainly significantly less Community Servers compared to what we had in the golden era of CS:GO. Many of those servers simply don’t work anymore. Hopefully, this unfortunate state of affairs will change once Valve bring back FastDL to Counter-Strike 2. First and foremost, Counter-Strike was born a community mod, so it’s only right to support community creators. We can only sit tight and wait for Valve to deliver on their promise.
