History of AK-47 Case Hardened 661 Blue Gem
The term ‘case-hardening’ itself implies the process of strengthening the outer surface of a metal by applying extreme heat and then immersing it in water. The chemical reaction between carbon, nitrogen and oxygen results in changes on the surface area of the hot metal, applying discoloration of various degree. This addition of varying patterns, often can be seen as a decorative finish for different weapons. This craftsmanship technique did not remain unnoticed in the CS:GO community, and back on August 14, 2023, the AK-47 Case Hardened was released as part of the Arms Deal Collection – an iconic skin selection with other timeless entries such as Lightning Strike AWP, Hypnotic Desert Eagle, SG 553 Ultraviolet. Even though in real life, case-hardening is mostly applied to revolvers, this AK-47 Case Hardened pattern shortly became a cult-classic and one of the most expensive non-melee skin in the game.
But what makes the 661 Blue Gem so special? What makes this very skin so expensive is the rarest existing pattern in the entire world. Visually, the #661 can be distinguished by the blue tint spreading across the entire receiver cover of this AK-47 Case Hardened. Hence, the name, “Blue Gem”. Usually, the Case Hardened AK’s don’t have such a high percentage of a blue tint, let alone an evenly spread blue tint. It is practically impossible to craft the same pattern as the #661. It was originally crafted. Also, it being Stat-Trak and Factory New plays a significant role in this AK’s astronomical price tag.

AK-47 Case Hardened 661 - Most Expensive CS:GO/CS2 Skin Ever Sold
The original owner of the skin mentioned earlier this year that his offer at the time was $1 million, but the buyout option he set was $2 million. Well, last week it was sold for the initial sum of $1 million. The buyer wished to remained anonymous, which is understandable, all things considered. The skin collector who brokered the deal, roflm0nster, wrote on his Twitter: “Not at liberty to disclose buyer or exact amount. What I can say is that $1m offers were rejected multiple times.” It is astonishing that there were multiple potential buyers eager to get this skin for the asking price.
