Many novice players make a mistake of skipping the guides on proper utility usage and just throw smokes when they’re in a vicinity of enemies, slowing down the tempo and potentially losing vital seconds in each round. But it shouldn’t always be this way, as there are certain patterns that you can follow – learn a few basic positions and patterns on how to provide utility for your team from a safe distance without sacrificing the tempo. This guide will walk you through all the essential T-side smokes for Mirage, one of the most popular maps in both CS:GO and CS2.

CS2 Mirage A Smokes

Proper smoke placement can block off the defenders’ efforts to catch you off guard on the A side. You have better chances of executing an A side entry if the CTs don’t have a proper vision from the stairs or the CT side. Let’s take a closer look at some important smokes for the Mirage A site.

Mirage Stairs smoke in CS2

This is the most important spot that you should smoke whenever you’re playing as an attacker on Mirage.  Steps usually serve as the spot where a sniper or a rifler can single-handedly stop the entire team. Here’s how you smoke Stairs on Mirage:

1. Climb up to the pillars near the T base and position yourself opposite to the farthest pillar.

2. Turn towards the A site and aim at the dark spot between two bricks.

3. Execute left-right click jump-throw and your smoke will land precisely on the stairs.

Mirage Connector/Jungle smoke in CS2

Both Connector and Jungle are located next to Stairs, so your algorithm will be pretty similar this time. Here’s how you smoke Jungle on Mirage:

  1. Climb up to the pillars near the T base and position yourself opposite to the farthest pillar.

  2. Turn towards the A site and aim at the highest point of the trapezoid

  3. Throw the smoke and it will cover Jungle

Mirage CT spawn smoke in CS2

CT spawn is a relatively safe place for the CT team to defend the A site, especially with a long range weapon. Here’s how you smoke CT spawn on Mirage:

  1. Stand on the corner between the T spawn and pillars and press against the wall

  2. Turn towards the A site and aim at the end of the beam sticking out of the highest building

  3. Jump-throw the smoke and it will land precisely on the CT box.

CS2 Mirage Mid Smokes

If your team decided to attack through short, you should be able to cover all the important positions on Mid with smoke. It is fairly easy to do with a few minutes of practice. It is best to use smoke directly from the T spawn, as it ensures your safety and a variety of potential strategies you could attempt. Here’s how you cover Mid:

  1. Go towards the trash can and press against the corner between the trash can and the wall

  2. Turn around and aim at the middle point between the door frame on the right and the beam/pillar thingy below the antenna

  3. Hold D for half-second and perform jump-throw to cover the window on Mid

  4. Alternatively, if your smoke fails to end up in the window, you can aim on the right side of the door frame below the beam (look at the screenshot) and perform a D jump-throw. Somehow, this works every time

  5. You can also cover from the same position by aiming at the yellow corner of the rug or the dark spot below and perform a jump-throw to cover connector

  6. You can also smoke off the catwalk if you aim in the middle of the roof/palm leaves

CS2 Mirage B Smokes

The “Rush B” catchphrase wasn’t just born out of thin air, if you happen to play Mirage a lot, you might know that the B site should be attacked fast. In order to do that, you should be able to cover all the important entrances from where CTs can defend. Here are the most important smoke lineups on B site:

  1. Go towards the direction of B site through side alley

  2. Go through TV and house and stop at Back Alley

  3. Look at the corner on the right and press against it

  4. Turn around and aim at the tower where you can execute multiple smokes

  • aim at the left corner of the tower and throw a smoke to cover the catwalk

  • aim at the top center corner of the tower and jump-throw to cover the B window

  • aim between two farther windows and jump-throw to cover the kitchen door

Conclusion

By mastering these smokes on Mirage, you’ll improve your chances of succeeding the T side strategies by minimizing threats of being eliminated from the jump. All you need to do is to spend some time in Practice mode where you can activate the Grenade view, which allows you to see where your utility lands. In about fifteen minutes, you’ll be ready to take on every clueless Silver. Go get ‘em tiger! Also, make sure to read our comprehensive guide on roles and positions in CS2.
