The Nova | Walnut (Field-Tested) is a Consumer Grade Nova skin with a figured walnut wood stock in warm brown, here showing honest everyday handling. Field-Tested is the most common grade and the usual entry point into the finish.

Design

Walnut gives the Nova a traditional wood-stocked appearance: a figured walnut finish in warm browns with visible grain, leaning classic and rustic instead of tactical. It's Valve's work, understated by design, relying on natural wood texture rather than any decal or printed pattern.

Nova | Walnut (Field-Tested) Float and Wear

Across a float range of 0.06–0.80, Field-Tested lands in the middle and picks up light scratching along the edges and high-contact points. The warm grain masks most of it, so the wood look still reads clearly — this is the grade players picture when they think of the finish, and the balance of look and cost.

Nova | Walnut Rarity

The grade is Consumer, the white tier and the lowest of the standard weapon classifications. That common label sits oddly against how few genuine copies exist, a quirk of the finish coming from a collection that's no longer minting new ones.

Nova | Walnut Case and Collection

This finish is a member of The Inferno Collection, released with the August 2013 "Arms Deal" update. There's no case that drops it — the collection feeds copies through drops instead — and since it's been discontinued for years, the supply on the market is effectively capped.

No random pattern roll applies here. This is a fixed finish, meaning the paint-seed number changes nothing about how it looks; the walnut grain lands the same on every copy. There's no rare seed or blue gem to seek out, so wear is the only real variable.

Does the Field-Tested Walnut look worn?

Only lightly. Field-Tested adds visible scratches at the edges, but the warm wood grain keeps them from standing out, so the finish still reads as an even walnut surface from normal distance. It's the middle grade — more character than Minimal Wear, far from the heavy scuffing lower down.

Is Field-Tested the best value Walnut?

For a lot of buyers, yes. It's a clear step cheaper than the higher grades and the most common condition on the market, while the wood grain means it doesn't look much rougher. Well-Worn and Battle-Scarred cost less again if you want the lowest possible entry point.

Why does the Nova look like a wooden shotgun here?

Because Walnut applies a figured walnut stock finish, recreating the warm brown grain of real wood over the Nova's body. It gives the gun a classic, hunting-rifle character rather than the synthetic look of most skins. It's purely cosmetic — the wood-grain finish has no effect on how the shotgun performs.
